I'm interested in getting a set of DD SS3's for fogs, but I'm a little confused about output vs cutoff. The majority of what I read says Pros are better than Sports and Max's are best. I've also see a couple say they had Pros but we're downgrading in power output to Sports because they had a better cutoff for driveability. Can anyone elaborate on this? I'm willing to get the Pros if they're that much better, but if the Sports are better for driving purposes than I'd rather stick with them. Thanks for any help and clarification. I'm not paying $500 for Max's, that's just not worth it to me.

PROs light output is better than the Sports but the cut off isn't as sharp because of it. More likely to get flashed by cars coming from the other direction

I run the sports to be a considerate driver while still benefiting from superior light output

My mindset also. I can't stand when people do it to me so why would I want to do it to them. I think I'll go with the sports.

I have the sports. If you aim properly, you won’t blind other drivers.

I also have the Sports. Paired with a set of proper LED retrofits is more than enough light without blinding others.

Agreed, although I have new OEM housings with upgraded harness, but same concept.

I went with the pros. I live in LA and have drove around with them on and have never had any issues getting flashed. I have a 2-2.5" lift with the headlight upgrade as well. just need proper aiming. My thought on getting the pros was mainly, when would I most likely be running the lights. And I came to conclusion that it would be mostly while driving off road, at night, or low visibility. So no oncoming drivers to really worry about. I'd rather have more light output. From everything I've read though, you really can't go wrong with any of Diode's products.

I have Sport which I run day and night because they look so cool. Never been flashed or hassled by the man. ( No front license plate.) Light bar on for pic only. 46EF500F-DD0C-40D4-9629-53A6E4822770.jpg

SAY IT TO MY FACE!!!!! :laser::eek:

@Tacoma13_NC the short answer to your question is that it comes down to the size of the LED emitter. The difference to you behind the wheel is that you will get the impression of more "light bleed" as the output on the pros doesn't draw quite as sharp of a line in the road in front of you, and the window of light is "larger". See photo below for direct comparisons.

Either way... Aim them PROPERLY and John Q public will still not be blinded as his sightline will be below the cutoff of your lights. I don't really want to speculate as to why folks who had pros went down to sports, but if I had to guess it would either be A) Improper aiming, B) ALOT more light than stock down on the road so they figured that they HAD TO be pissing off the other guy... :notsure:

Note that all 3 Sport/Pro/Max are all SAE complaint and street legal as fogs. The Pros do have more spill above the cut off (aka glare) than the Sport or Max, but within legal limits. If you are the type to leave them on all the time, the sports may be a better fit. One other point to consider, is the Sport will not get hot enough to de-ice. So if using them for snow conditions, the Pro or Max are a better fit to prevent snow/ice build up from obstructing output.

Really appreciate this information along with your other testing. This is why I went with the Pros, even though I thought the Sports would have been fine from an output perspective. No sense in having yellow fogs for the snow if they're going to freeze up and not work.
