Comparison shopping for my retirement travel camp rig.

Was going to buy another AccessCab, since I have owned a few since 2005. Come to learn Toyota discontinued them, after some thought believe I could live without the clamshell doors, however the price difference not sure it is worth it, maybe if was $5K cheaper it could be justified. Unsure what Toyota is thinking, guessing they won’t sell many other than to fleet customers.

Be lucky they even offer it at all. 2 of the brands have ditched it for 4 doors.

There is that, guess one could consider it a regular cab with extra storage space. No XtraCabs at the dealers here yet, do see they are on deck. Must of had a later production run than the DoubleCabs. Haven’t been able to check them out in person yet to see if it would work. Looking at pictures of the storage bins those look kinda nifty.

Never paid too much attention to the DCs since 98% of the time it is just me. Doesn’t look like there is much legroom back there for passengers. Be great for storage with the rear seats removed though. With the price difference being not that much, the DC might be the more practical option.

More than I need but still not enough.
I picked up a double cab and removed the rear seat. With it being my wife and I and the only one who will ever be in the back is our 150lb dog it's perfect. Currently working on building out a platform to cover the storage area and give my dog a nice place to lay down. It is really nice to have all of that extra storage inside of the cab though and has already proven to be very useful.

That is what I liked about the AccessCab, was great for our dog, now the dog is gone don’t really need it. Do keep some gear back there, which could move the heavier stuff to the bed of the truck and put the rarely used tools in the XCs cubbies. Though who knows, might get a dog again, last one was found out in the middle of desert and it jumped in my truck.

Was cross shopping with a F150 SuperCab, like how the rear seat flips up and the flat floor, and double the size gas tank. My wife reminded me that I stop a bunch anyways, do we really need twice the range, eh probably not. Couple few things I didn’t care for with the Ford.

Yea I was following along with that thread and found it interesting. I went to look at the Fords but the dealership was closed. The trucks looked great but I never got the chance to actually get inside and drive one.

I will say, even though it's big, the midsize has been great so far. Offers just enough room for what I need and is narrow enough to fit down some tighter trails getting back to campsites. The range is better than my previous car and its milk jug for a gas tank so I don't mind the smaller tank size in the Taco.

Between the XC and DC, since they are so close in price, really just comes down to how often you think you'll be getting stuff in and out of the rear and whether extra space with a door for access is worth it. You really can't go wrong with either.

Do like the Ford, but feel lost in the interior. All the controls are backwards to me, like the Toyota’s cabin a lot better, the Ford isn’t bad looking truck on the exterior, however spend more time driving than I do standing outside looking at it.

Size comparison, they feel very similar driving to me, yeah the cabin is a bit bigger on the F150, but wasn’t night and day.

The XC would certainly work, price-wise not sure I can justify it. The DC would be more practical. Have to wait and see a XC in person. Looking to buy at the end of this year, have plenty of time to drive myself nuts over it. ;)

Well I look forward to seeing what you end up with. I actually really like the look, in pictures, of the XC and would love to see one in person.

The XC does look more in proportion than the DC. Liking the Prerunner, but no 4WD, not sure why Toyota did that since you can’t get the XC in the OR trim.

The DCLB doesn’t look too terrible with some larger tires on it though.

    None so far
My favorite is (was) the 4-door TRD OR Access, ' still have a 2nd gen '12 that runs great at 180K miles.
I think it stinks that Toyota chooses to take a large step backward to the X-tra 2-door. The management priorities have changed bigly.
'Just hoping my 4th gen still has some long-term reliability, only time will tell.

That is my favorite cab configuration and trim level. Not sure why the price is so high on the XC since it lost the the suicide doors and doesn’t get the coil rear suspension. DCLB isn’t a terrible option, but not exactly what I want.

Yeah only time will tell if the ‘24 will be reliable. Not getting younger so don’t think it matters much to me anymore, when the warranty is up, I’ll off it.
