Like many of the SR5 owners on here, I actually like the design of the factory wheel. I’ve seen some of the factory wheels dipped or painted and they look great, but I was looking more for a chrome finish to dress up the black. Long story short, I found these chrome wheel skins and I’m happy with them as they let me achieve the look I was going for. Searched the forum and didn’t see any other posts on wheel skins so I figured I’d post them. Let me know your thoughts.

They also come in gloss black: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-of-4-1...r-2016-2019-Toyota-Tacoma-Chrome/353080338434

That is an interesting idea. Wonder how they will hold up? I like the stock SR5 wheels and wont be changing mine.

@3rdGenSr5Black - looks nice on your rig. For the first time the chrome bumper cover doesn't burn my eyes.

Not my style but I like it for what it is. If you like it, that's all that matters. It looks clean too.

The skins look great on your black truck. Not sure how yours attach to the wheel, but I had them on my ranger and the clips cut through the clear coat on the wheel causing corrosion.

Saw a post on an Amazon listing for the same item. They clip on the backside of the spokes so I don't think it will be a problem....but I wouldn't let dust/dirt get in there over time.

Correct, these clip on the back side of the spokes.

Chrome isn't the look for everyone - I completely understand. I'm not certain I would do it on another color other than black.

    How about in black?

note: I also painted the center caps krylon gloss black but kept the logos chrome for the moment

The black wheel skins I had on steel wheels made it a pain to add air or check the air pressure in my tires so I ripped those suckers off and threw them in the trash can at the local Casey's store then went home and started looking for Toyota alloy wheels on ebay.

Likewise, mine don’t pinch the valve stems or make it difficult at all.

These are wheel covers which have been used by numerous manufacturers for years to cover up the ugly steel wheels on their lower end models. You see these all over the the side of the road since they have a tendency to come off easily. The Tesla model 3 uses these on their cheap wheels, they call them aerodynamic wheels.

These might be the thing for me, only in black. Thanks for posting about them.

I was seriously considering Plasti-dip, but have been holding off for some reason, maybe this will do the trick, for roughly the same cost when all said and done.

I don't hate the factory colour grey wheels, but I'm doing the whole Red/black colour scheme on my Red 2019 SR5, and I think the black wheels will finish it nicely. Just need to decide if matte or gloss. If anyone has any pics I would love to see them.

I tested out plasti and did not like it's off black color. I am still on the fence about the gloss I have but matt-black was not an order option. I did paint my center caps a semigloss that I think I'd like better but I'm waiting. Great part is I can paint these covers and still keep my rims stock.

That's great info. I did plasti-dip my grill bezel, and it matched the grill very nicely, but it is chipping in two spots so I need to re-do that. These wheel covers are going to be a good addition I think. I like the idea that you can dip them too, in case I ever feel like trying a bronze or something, good idea man.

Likewise, I'm glad they are working out for you. I just found in the winter time at the local Casey's convenience store the hose is stiff and the air chuck had to be placed in just the right position to put air in the tires. Another reason I tried the wheel skins I was hoping they would keep the rain water from pooling in the rim. My truck sits for 3 or 4 days sometimes and I figured someday they would start rusting. The wheel skins did not help with the rain water either.

But like I said, glad they are working out for you.
