I’m looking at an SR 2016 Tundra because it’s over 10 grand cheaper than an SR5 at the same dealer. Similar trucks otherwise.

As far as I can tell I’ll be missing fog light, chrome, alloy wheels, the 38 gallon talk (only drawback for me), etc.

Am I missing anything where I’ll really be kicking myself later wishing I had not saved money and just got a more expensive truck? Any insight on extras I’m overlooking?

Plan to drive them for a long long time. If someone hadn’t wrecked my 2006 I wouldn’t even be shopping for another 10-15 years anyway. Thanks for any insights on a not forever but long term daily driver.

Looks like I can buy some fog lights (and wish I had a larger gas tank) for less than ten grand…

I can't recall which trims had the column shifter, but its fucking awesome.

The 4.6 with a column shifter and bench front seat is the best Tundra. It's odd the literature doesn't mention the 4.6. It was still being made back then.

This particular truck has the 5.7, column shifter, and a long bed. I’m just posting generic things I find in the internet ha.

I do like that it has the bench seat!

From what I’ve read the 38 gallon tank (only reason I want an SR5) says you’re on reserve by 30 gallons down anyway so even though it’d be great to have 38 instead of 26 (that’s a huge difference!) I’m happy to save 10-12 grand and love with 300 miles a tank instead of 400 ha.

Will post up if/when I get it. Working a deal tomorrow. Put refundable deposit down today.

I just figured some Tundra guru might chime in and say bro, the SR trim only comes with 3 wheels (obviously being facetious with that example haha), everyone knows that, ya dummy… and save me from a bad call.

wonder if the interior is diffrent. like does the sr have carpet floors or vynil? are the seats cloth or vynil. everything else can be upgraded over time though.

sorry to hear about your 2006 tundra. those things are awesome. would love to get one instead of the tacoma, but a decent 2006 4x4 with 130k-160k miles is around $15k where i live.

We didnt sell many SR's in Canada, they are kinda rare.

Big thing on these trucks are leaks and timing chain rattles.

The cam housings leak on the back side of the engine onto the exhaust.

The rear main seal leaks out the bell housing.

Finally, the timing chains rattle and it gets fairly loud. The tensioners fail and it slaps around. If you hear any odd knocking or rattling, be cautious.

The SR trim is the only one in my region that doesn't come with the Tow package. But that's not a big deal for most.

For $10k less. Get an SR.

the SR5 is great though. As far as options or tech the SR5 isn’t too far from the SR. Without going to TRD/ limited/ platinum+ trims. But doesn’t seem to be a variable for this

the smaller tank with smaller engine might be equal in mpg vs getting the 5.7 and larger tank that gets worse mpg

This particular model has cloth seats and carpet. There are SR models with vinyl for both.

I am saddened by the 06. I was set on driving it until it fell apart. Unfortunately it was helped along ha.

This one has tow mirrors and tow package, thankfully! Just not much of a payload or tow rating

I REALLY appreciate the heads up on what to look out for though. Thank you! Will do preventative maintenance accordingly.

Seems to be chrome, gas tank, 1” larger screen, some steering wheel buttons, etc. for differences. This one has 5.7 engine and 26 gal tank. Thank you for the feedback!

Generic long bed photo for more accurate representation (still no tow mirrors).

All seem small for a 10k difference was where I was going with it though. At least I see them as small differences at least

    how many miles?

Looks like I’ll need to take the steering wheel off to add fog lights (and maybe intermittent wipers) is all.

Will throw some 265/70-18 3PMSF tires on before winter and call it done most likely…

I wonder if the TRD OR take-offs are the best shocks to look for eventually for the Tundras as well… hmm.

38 gallon tank upgrade added to the long term list after some research.
