My main belt squeals a little when I first start the truck. it quiets down after a few minutes and is fine for the rest of the day, but the next morning it will make noise again till it warms up.
I was told by several people that using dove soap or bar soap will quiet the squeal.
    Any experience with this.
An examination of the belt looks fine and the tension seems good.

How old is the belt and how many miles on it?

My tacoma is an '07 with 53k.
I hesitate to put anything on the pulleys or belt, but I did clean the pulleys. One in particular was really dirty. It seemed to help, but I won't know for sure untill tomorrow morning when i start her cold.
Seems like their could be alot of reasons for the squeak. I have a friend who is a mechanic and he is going to change to the belt for me...I'm hopeful that will do the trick.

If the belt is glossy, or cracked, or shines, its dried out and needs to be replaced.

Dishsoap is a rubber lubricant, and the purpose of the belt isn't to slide, its to grip. Do not put dishspoap on it, because anytime your engine gets wet and the soap can "suds" the belt will slip.

There is a reason we use it on the impellers in water craft in the spring. It frees up the stuck rubber propeller.

Toyota was too cheap to put sealed pulleys on these trucks so they could have foreign matter within them causing the bearings to wear and cause the noise.

You can also get belt dressing. I would look the belt over to see if it glossy or has cracks in the ribs if so replace the belt. You can also clean the belt with a brass brissel brush while it's running if you are real careful. But this is a temp fix it's best to replace the belt.

this happened to me about 3 wks ago. i thought it was the s-belt but turns out the tensioner pully was wearing out. my truck is a 2010 and has 55K miles on it. i also drive about 5.2k miles in about 5 wks. Dealership swapped it out in about an 1.5 hrs. Cost about @250.

I have the same squeal at startup, which happened 2 starts after I replaced the belt with an OE belt. It still squeals after about 8 starts. Is it possible the tensioner went bad after I used/moved it? It doesn't seem totally logical that it would go bad within the same day, but maybe becasue I moved the tensioner it effected its integrity.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? It only squeals on startup.--thanks
