    Hello all

I pinpointed a squeak to the OEM lower ball joint on the passenger side of my truck and its driving me crazy. Is there any remedial action i can take to get rid of the squeak? I thought I had read a thread on someone finding a way to pump grease or lubricant into the ball joint. tried searching but didn't find much other than the MOOG greasable lbj option as a replacement but i am not ready to replace LCA's just yet.

Anybody got any ideas or suggestions on how i can lubricate the lbj to make the squeak go away ? the boot isn't torn either to its not spilling grease or anything

Curious how do you know it's the LBJ?

There's a lot of other moving parts in that area.

But to your question, I don't think you'll be lubing that particular part.

I'm not sure how to get the squeaking to go away since they are sealed units...but I would definitely check them for play because it might be a sign that they are going bad (or maybe they're just squeaking). Worth checking them though, if they are going bad you'll definitely want to replace them...very dangerous to roll around on bad LBJs

He's second gen, they redesigned the LBJs as to be not so catastrophic when they fail. Still a good idea to replace if its on its way out.

i bought a cheap mechanic's stethoscope and put it against all the joints while i had a buddy jumping on the side of the truck to articulate the suspension. UCA's, uniball, sway bar links, LCA's, ect... squeak was loudest at the LBJ area

ah yeah I totally knew that but didn't see this was a 2nd gen thread lol...any time I read about LBJ issues I automatically assume it's a 1st gen thread, unfortunately

You can but those at Napa too. That's where i got mine. They're a needle with a zerk fitting. Stick it on the grease gun and pierce the boot...

after piercing the boot with that needle, you might want to use some silicone to close the hole

I have one but have not used it. Saw some utube videos a while back. The hold should close up after removing the needle, but not a bad idea to use silicone, but will have to clean off the grease real good for it to stick.

My LBJ was losing grease so I used that same needle to put more grease. The hole did not seal by itself in my 2013 taco and I lost some grease out of the puncture.

Hole should seal itself fine unless you overgreased. I've been doing this for years on my jeep

I would use the needle. The hole can be sealed with shoe goo after cleaning the rubber. The automotive shoe goo is best.

You'll see the boot start to buldge a bit then it's time to back off. Sometimes I hit the boot in 2 different places (front and back) to get grease in all around

Im just going to start by saying REPLACE THE BALL JOINT!!! if its squeaking and making noise its done no grease metal to metal grinding itself away, the tolerances aren't there anymore it will come loose at some point, it has to be replaced.
