Im getting a squeaking sound from the DSCSB, this just started a few days ago, it only squeaks when moving forward and goes away, or gets drowned out, at speed. Im guessing this needs replacing..tips, tricks...

Could also be a universal joint. Grease the U-Joints and see if it goes away. If it does get all 3 of them replaced in the rear drive shaft.

After they are replaced, grease them at every oil change. Then they last long time.

First thing I did when I noticed the squeak. I bought the car used and figured that it had not been done in awhile, if ever. Sqeak did not go away. I have the part ordered along with a jaw puller...Ill have a jaw puller for sale in about a week if anyone is interested. HA! Thanks for the reply Jimmyh

I would be willing to bet it is not the center support bearing. I had a similar noise and thought it was the center support bearing. Well, after buying a new bearing and putting it in, it wasn't my center bearing. It was one of my u-joints. Upon further inspection, said u-joint was completely rusted out. After I replaced that u-joint (and the other 2 while I was at it), no more sound. The price of the three u-joints was considerably less than the one center support bearing combined. Just trying to help out so you dont make the same mistake. Look at those u-joints first.2015-08-13 at 14-16-39.jpg

Hey Grimm, what kind of grease did you use when you replace the support bearing. I got a note with the new part that says to apply grease between the outer seal and the bearing.

I forgot which one it was but it was a Mobil 1 brand. Red in color if that helps. I put a little grease on the bearings to they stayed put when I putting the caps back on. Then filled them up when the joints were fully assembled.

So it looks like I have to take the entire Drive Shaft off to do this job, so I think im just going to replace all of the Ujoints since ill have it off anyway. Quick question, are all of the Ujoints the same size. Looks like there are 3 one at the tranmission, one on the DSCSB on the rear axle side and one on the rear axle. Ive been getting different answers from different part stores. I have a 2009 Tacoma 4wd.

Three on the rear drive shaft assembly: One at the transmission, one at the carrier bearing and one at the rear differential. They should all be the same size.

@MrGrimm can i get some help from this old thread? I previously had a real bad TOB chirp with my clutch. About two weeks ago another squeak joined it, however the new noise only happens when im in a low gear and using it to slow me down, or in reverse. accelerating or cruising in 3rd gear or higher the new noise isnt there. last weekend i replaced my clutch. (what an adventure that was!) So proud to announce my clutch TOB no linger chirps! but the newer noise did not go away. While under my car for the clutch everything was in great condition. very little rust etc. so trying to pinpoint where this noise is coming from ive narrowed it down to two culprits. the u joints or the carrier bearing. neither by my inspection look like they need it so id like to only replace what i have to. ive included a link to a video with the noise so if anyone can help diagnose i really appreciate it. my truck is a six speed manual so in the video im in first gear going down a mellow slope with my foot off the gas. thanks

Did you ever get it figured out? Sounds like my 07 2wd tacoma except mine makes the noise in reverse. Everywhere I'm getting its the u joint. I have to take mine out and take to a driveline shop(or do it myself)

My 2019 TRD Sport is making that same noise in slow speed whether in gear or not. Tech from dealership suspect prop shaft, warranty replacement ordered. Will update when it's installed.

My 2000 Sr5 is making this exact noise AFTER We replaced all of the U joints and the Center bearing due to vibration at 40-50MPH. Vibration went away, chirping appeared 1 month after the drive shaft was rebuilt. The shop greased all of the Ujoints again and WD-40'd the center bearing. Seemed to help for a minute but its back. Doesn't seem mission critical but annoying. The shop had to have the center bearing re done at a driveline shop so they said drive it for a bit and if it persists we'll have to have the driveline mechanic look at it again because its coming from the there.
