Howdy, I’ve recently decided on a pair of headlights that are manufactured from Spyder, their the Gen2 Projector Headlights with lightbar. In my opinion look amazing, just wanted to see if y’all have any complaints with them?

another question is where did y’all buy them? I is as wanting to purchase them through Tacoma beast due to them being cheaper but their out of stock, I’ve been looking at CarID but not sure, any suggestions on where to purchase them?

Spyder is well known to be one of the worst headlight brands out there. All looks and horrible performance, and poor build quality. People often complain the headlights are ineffective at projecting light output, they leak and get water on the inside of the headlight and the lenses fog from UV breakdown early. Definitely a brand to avoid if you drive at night. They will be a massive downgrade from your OEM lights in every measurable way.

Well damn. I really liked the designs. Do you have any suggestions on other brands? Kinda set me back some, glad I checked here

I bought the same lights about a month and a half ago. I live in Wyoming and driving at night I could barely hit 55mph and feel safe with my oem lights. I wanted something newer but being a college student I can not spend a fortune on headlights. For looks they are awesome, really improved the look of the front end. Performance on the other hand, like others have said it’s more of a down grade. Low beams are not that great at all and I pretty much have to drive with my fogs on all the time to get adequate lighting. I have a different experience with the high beams. I think the high beams were definitely an upgrade for me and really helped. My old high beams made almost no difference between my low beams so these I like better. Now I also bought a 40” Amazon light bar for the roof so if I really need light I have it. So if you live in a really populated area that has a lot of street lights and you just want something for looks, these can be a good option (if you seal them with silicone, they’re also cheap Chinese plastic so don’t expect them to last forever) If you live out in the country or more rural area with no street light and you drive at night regularly I’d either get some good SAE fogs or aux lights to help, or get a better quality light.

Beautiful truck! I live in North Texas and go on trips ever other weekend with some friends, but mainly it’ll be used for street use, I’ll buy some silicon to put in on the seals once they get here, I also have a nicer pair of bulbs compared to the stock ones. The previous owner had bought them and their still working good, I’m just hoping the headlights last a bit, don’t want to have to go through this process all over again.

    appreciate the help tho!

I’d be careful with headlight bulbs with these lights. I bought the supposedly brighter silvania light bulbs at auto zone that are like $47-$50 and I did not see a difference in brightness or anything compared to the bulbs that come with the headlights.

I have the other spyder iterations, with the thicker light bar that is more reminiscent of the 3rd gen aftermarket ones

you're correct that the sylvanias didn't do a damn thing lol. and I know it's commonly not endorsed, but I put some LED bulbs into the projectors and they work just fine, the cutoff is sharp enough it's easy to adjust downwards so it doesn't glare all over the place like an LED bulb in a halogen reflector would. They're probably about as bright as the OEM halogens, I can still see their lines when i turn on my diode dynamics fogs which are the same color temp and you'd think they'd wash it out but nah.

the trick is that you have to buy the newer LED bulbs that have LED's all around the tip, not the ones that just have leds on two sides like most of the fog light LED bulb options. Can share a link to some if somebody wants. I went through about 3 different sets of bulbs, halogen and LED, before I figured out the correct type for even and bright light distribution.

I have had my Spyder headlights for around 7 months now. They are a different kind, but still made by Spyder and use H1 bulbs. I do plan to get the ones you mentioned one day and I assume they will have extremely similar if not identical output. My experience has not been near as bad as reviews say... yet.
I have had no leaks and I did not silicone anything. My only complaint is the distance. The lows and highs are plenty bright enough, they just don’t shine as far as OEM. This isn’t much of a problem for me as I believe they shine plenty far enough I’m not going to wreck due to my headlights not being as good as OEM. Yeah the output isn’t as good (although I don’t believe it’s as big of a gap as people make it out to be) but for me, the looks overcome that. It isn’t like I can’t see the road.
Pro: look way better than oem
Con: output distance slightly worse than oem
If your top priority is looks, get them. If you’re going for output then search for something else.
Another thing I might mention since you could be going for looks is the DRL on the ones you’re looking at and the ones I have are not actually bright enough to run during the day. Huge disappointment there. But they look sick at dusk/dawn/night.

Yes, good point. I should’ve/could’ve mentioned overcast as well. Most of the time it’s clear and sunny here in Alabama, and if that’s the case then you can’t even tell they’re on.

My plan is to pull them apart and put baja designs squadron pro spots where the high beams are and then put a higher quality projector to replace the current ones. But since I’m in college right now it’s kind of hard for me to afford those things right now.

Spots are not an ideal high beam patten, the area illuminated will be pretty small. A better approach would be to use an SAE J581 aux high beam driving pod, specific for that purpose, like Diode Dynamics SS3 Pros in Driving pattern. They will provide a far more usable beam pattern while also being higher intensity than the Baja lights.
