I have been spraying my truck and a few friend’s trucks with Woolwax for a couple of years. It’s my preferred product for a number of reasons, but thats a different topic.

My brother reached out to me to tell me he is getting his super duty sprayed with New Hampshire Oil Undercoating, and asked me if I could spray his truck with Woolwax afterwards.

It seemed odd to me- I have never heard of anyone using these two products together.

Of course I can do it- but should I? Would there be any benefits - or drawbacks to overcoating NH Oil Undercoating with Woolwax? I have heard of people going from similar products to another similar product (Fluid Film to Woolwax or vice versa) but have never heard of using dissimilar products on top of each other.

I stick to single product (or family’s) for compatibility. Tell him you have concerns/doubts. However it’s his decision.

I looked at the website, and see a lot of hype and franchise opportunity. I see no way to determine the overall quality of the product. Lots of emphasis on 'creeping' and 'looks'.

I mean we know that even treatment with used motor oil on a regular basis, while messy and environmentally unfriendly, does offer some protection.

I suspect that vendor would tell him not to top coat it.

If the truck is fairly fresh, I'd just have it done your way and skip the oil part, assuming you have all the wands and stuff to get into the niches.

I'd get a sample of both and mix them. See if there is any breakdown of the mixture. If the consistency stays the same, then I wouldn't have any worries.

The WW is lanolin based, is the NHO actually petroleum based?

The only way to be sure is try samples of both and see if they play well together.

I used NH Oil for my first time then the next year I used Woolwax. Nothing noticeable happened but there was a year in between.

Why did you switch to Wool Wax any real reason?

Just because a guy on here did it so I'd rather support him rather than a random person from facebook. After switching WW does seem to be slightly better IMO

I appreciate all of the responses, thanks.

Definitely seems like a lot of marketing hype, but I see that from most products. The truck has some years and miles- pretty sure its a 2016. Not sure if its ever been sprayed before but its fairly clean for a new england truck. I am all set up with the sprayer and extension wands.

Yea the Woolwax is lanolin based; they describe the NHO as “mineral oil and green corrosion ingredients “. My skepticism is driven by them being different. Most people I know personally from the forum have bounced between fluid film and woolwax, but those are both lanolin based so I never thought too much into that.

Good points on mixing them to see the result. I don’t have any NHO, so I’ll see if he can get some. I am not really interested in dropping money on some of that at the moment just for an experiment.

I couldn’t imagine anything crazy would happen overcoating one with the other, just seems unnecessary, and wanted to see if anyone had any actual experience with it.

Woolwax is legit you literally have to power wash it off I’ve been thru streams in my truck with woolwax and it stayed completely in tact never heard of New Hampshire. Everyone uses woolwax and fluid film for a reason

Does any of the 3 woolwax, fluidfilm, NH oil have a smell to them after being sprayed on? Or if so how long before it goes away? I'd like to get it done but I'm super sensitive to chemical smells/fumes.

    Lol.

I use FF. To me it smells like a cat litter box that is 2 days beyond when it should have been cleaned.

With that said, I only notice this when spraying it. I can't detect it after the truck is on the ground and out the shop door.

I use FF on my/my families vehicles.
As mentioned, it smells for a couple days and that's it. And it's not really a "chemical" smell either.
Sorta smells like a stinky candle in a 70s Head Shop.

Honestly the smell isn’t that bad it doesn’t smell like a pile of steaming shit or like you’re driving thru a cow pasture or nothing like that. Does have a strong odor but it’s not like you’re going to be hanging out underneath your car huffing that shit in

Many years ago I lived in Sunapee and bought a used Chevy with some rust and minor rust through areas. Locally there was a guy who did oil undercoating. He had ramps to get under the truck so he could cover all areas. Usually the oiling was done in the warmer weather since it was basically used motor oil. He would squirt all over the underside, fenders, doors, etc. Then the last step was to drive down dry sandy unpaved roads so the dirt would stick to the oil. I have to say that after the spraying there were no more squeaks, the truck dripped oil in the dirt drive way for 2 weeks, but he rust was stopped and oiling lasted for ever. Many locals used this guy for years.
Naturally tree huggers were unheard of back then. I don't know if I would have it done today. I bet it wouldn't make mechanics happy looking up at the coating while servicing my truck.

One of the biggest problems is that your frame has a bunch of holes in it where salt laden water gets into and fluid film, woolwax, and snake oil are not going to be able to access and that’s where you’re going to have your most destructive frame cancer coming from… the inside.

But your frame will look real nice with no surface rust so you’ll continue to pay people for the undercoating.

If the person applying knows what they are doing, they better be getting the undercoating into those areas.
