I've been considering building a water storage system with 6" PVC pipe for camp showers. Awhile back, while wandering through the local Fleet Farm store, I ran across spot sprayers that would mount on an ATV rack. Using one of those would save money and time building something.

Has anyone used one of these for water storage for a camp shower? The tank is polyethylene and also includes a 12 volt pump. The 15 gallon size looks like it would fit fine between the wheel wells in the bed. I wouldn't use it for drinking, but showers and dish washing, I think it would be fine. And they are currently on clearance for $65!

I use to use a 2 gal pump sprayer for washing down a salt water fishing kayak and gear before loading into my truck. Plus It worked good for spraying off your feet. You just pumped it up about 6 times and your good to go.
Would also use it for washing my little dog when when I took her to the beach.

Fifteen gallons of water is about 120#s plus the 20#s of tank not to mention the size. Do you need fifteen gallons of water? We've got one on the back of one of the 4wheelers for spraying fence lines (it came from Tractor Supply, IIRC, but basically the same thing). 6" PVC pipe is also heavy.

As Spitdog said, a pump sprayer is hard to beat- cheaper, lighter, easier to use and remove when not needed, easier to clean, no electronics to mess with, etc. If you're really lazy you can add a Schrader valve to pressurize it but a couple of pumps is all it takes to get a decent stream out of most of them. I use a $6 1gal Home Depot version and can easily take a shower with water left over; either take the wand off and put the nozzle back on the handle or add a kitchen sprayer (I like the nozzle since it is adjustable and has a bit more force). It works well for spraying dirt off bikes and paddling gear as well as dogs. Even more often than the pump sprayer, at least in the summer, I use a 1L bottle with a Simple Shower attached.

If it was just me, I would not even be thinking about it. But the wife thinks she needs a shower at least every three days. We have done a few 10 to 14 day trips through National Forest. So we usually find a truck stop, or book a park with showers or hotel every third day or so to have a shower. (And a bed is nice too.) Last fall we camped in a remote area of Arkansas in mud and rain for 4 days straight. Really wanted extra water to rinse off with. Well at least something more than the water off the awning.

After looking into it more, the spray tank may not be the best way to go. I found a rectangular 10 gallon fresh water tank on Amazon for $40, and I already have a salvaged RV pump, so I may build a custom setup.

They're not the cheapest things, but companies like Frontrunner make and carry a handful of options for showers. Definitely nice if you have a roof rack.

I like that set up! I did not run across the Ironman 4x4 tanks when I was looking. They have a good selection depending on where you want to place it. And the prices are not bad at all. I think that wedge tank would be perfect to DIY exactly what I was thinking of doing.

I’m actually researching solar showers myself. I like the concept of the waterport and that it has a manual self pump on the cap. I however don’t like how much it costs. My thought is build diy out of 4” pvc. Cap one end. They other end with a reducing tee and cap at the end. The reducer has the cap pump and it’s where you fill. On the opposite cap is where the hose connection is. Length to be determined and mounting option would go on my Prinsu.

I use to have an all aluminum tubular tank made by bamf that holds 5 gallons and gets pretty warm. I listed it on the general for sale page.

I have a Nemo Helio that works awesome. I've used it for field showers and washing my bike away from water sources. Portable and simple - no moving parts. Just a holding tank, a foot pump to pressurize, and a kitchen sprayer type nozzle with several feet of hose. If you want a hot shower bust out the jet boil and pour the hot water back in.

I just use the cheap gravity fed showers from the 'Zon. They are well under 20 bucks and take up little room. You do need to pre heat the water but that goes for all of these solutions I think....

In the warmer months I just bathe in the lake. However, I do most of my camping in the Fall/Winter/Spring when it is too cold to take a dip. A HOT shower is a welcome end to a long day in the cold wind, fishing out on the water. Campfires are great, but a hot shower to remove the chill to your core makes camping so nice. Here is how I've been doing it these last twenty years. Hot Shower made easy. UNENDING hot showers! | Tacoma World

Thanks! Your setup is exactly what I was thinking. I really like the size and shape of that tank and pump set up. It would make packing easy in the bed, and all one unit to remove when not needed.
