Hi all can someone explain what the tuned suspension means. This came on my 2021 TRD Sport and have no idea to what it means. Thanks

You have stiffer shocks than the off road models.

So basically made for highway driving not off road. This means that I would be bouncing like a Mexican jumping bean going off road lol.

While the TRD Offroad has Bilstein and the TRD Pro has Fox, TRD Sports come with Hitachi shocks. These shocks are tuned for a firmer ride and more geared to on road than off road. Sports also have a slightly larger sway bar as well. I am not sure if springs are any different but it wouldn't surprise me.

Still offroad capable, the ride can be jarring at times though!

No, actually it's the opposite. There is NO bounce. I drove my Sport off road on a washboard road I always take my truck on to give my 4WD a work out. With the original shocks, it was a jarring ride. With the Bilsteins and OME springs, I glide over the bumps. I imagine the OEM OR suspension is similar as people state it is softer and a little more forgiving.

I have gone off road a bit not for long and found it to be a rough ride. Even going off curbs or speed bumps and I definetly feel them. So it is not really a smooth rider other than on the main paved roads, rides like a Cadillac.

On a recent camping trip I had to go in 60 kms by FSR, and as my name suggests I prefer to drive fast. The suspension liked to get squirrelly and tail-happy over washboard sections, I engaged 4wd to help, slowing down made the ride firmer and harsher. And as you already stated, going off larger object like a curb or into a pothole are quite obvious. The shocks are very good at absorbing the sudden change in direction, just at the expense of the occupants comfort.

After thorough consideration to the options of upgrading the suspension, I have decided to order the Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 kit for my truck. Bilsteins were a consideration too, but when I broke down prices and wanting a complete assembly vs. something I had to assembly, the Eibach kit made more sense to me. Also I feel the kit being manufactured as a package ( Struts and Coils ) vs, Bilstein struts and stock coils or OME coils, that maybe they will work together with better tuning to each other. If that makes sense.

And the scoop. It has a scoop right?

Toyota's salesmen would tell you the sport is a 4wd vehicle for discerning street drivers.

The marketing team, after a few drinks, would tell you it's a ploy to hook those who don't like the image that 'off road' conjures.

Something for everyone. Well, except those who love regular cabs and/or the 5 lug versions. Just not enough of us to keep them in production.

Yes I love the scoop makes it look more sportier than the plain hoods that I have seen on other Tacos. Not sure if they are panty droppers like some say. Too old for that lol.

My sport is a daily driver and I don't off-road. The ride is not bad at all especially with the long bed, but I've often wondered if replacing the stock Hitachi shocks with Bilstein 4600s would improve things.

If you drove a sport and off road back to back, you'd notice the off road has a much softer, more 'floaty' ride with more body roll in turns, etc.

I love the "firm" ride of my Sport. It feels tight and in control going around corners.

As for the scooped hood, I was skeptical at first. It seemed that it was blocking visibility. But I largely solved that problem simply by raising the driver's seat.

The scooped hood has a hidden benefit in that it dampens hood vibration. The whole front end of the truck has a more solid feeling.

I agree with all of the above.

Having said that, if I did a lot of off-road stuff I would have picked the TRD OR or the Pro. But I don't, so the Sport is perfect for my needs.

The springs, shocks, and sway bar are significantly more stiff. It is pretty harsh over an uneven bump (pot hole versus speed bump).

Just by removing the sway bar, it will off road like a champ. After experiencing this early on, the sway bar stayed off.

One thing though is that wheeling seemed to wear out the suspension. At 50k for me, it was done.

I couldn't get my configuration in an Offroad, so Sport it was. No regrets.

I love my Sport and don’t really see myself taking it off road but it would be nice to have 4wd option. Do they even produce the Sport with 4wd or are they just pretty rare? I don’t think I’ve seen any

Sports and ORs are just about equal in production numbers. Around here, it is rare to see a non-4wd model in any trim. In Canada, it was said that only 4wd models are available.

In different areas of the country, more non-4wd models are sold / seen.
