If for some reason you have an engine failure you can rest assured that Toyota would blame it on your aftermarket oil filter housing replacement and non-approved filter use.

I also don't see how that's worth it anyway, it's not like it's hard to swap out the filter as it is. That's 50k miles worth of oil change money just to save 5 minutes tops on an oil change.

You’re right. It’s not. But I feel like a regular oil filter is less messy to change. Just my opinion. And since I do all my own maintenance.........

That there thingy had been discussed before. I personally don't see it as worth the money after working with the cartridge filter once and didn't find it difficult. In other threads where it was talked about someone spoke well of the adapter. For the price it should and better be well made, It looks to be.
However my experience with the one oil change so far was good. I took my time with the filter since it was a new process to me. Everything came off and went back fine so to me it's money I'd rather spend on other things for the truck. It solves a problem that doesn't exist to me but to each his own.

Yeah, I did my first oil change, and got oil just about everywhere because I forgot to drain the canister that the filter’s in. I can see me doing that again, so to me, this will be worth it.

I made a bigger mess draining the oil from the sump. It comes out fast and splatters.
I did drain my filter and that part was actually less messy than changing the filter on my last vehicle that had a Spin on filter that was horizontal.
Not that I want to talk you out of it but $230 vs 5 more minutes to drain the filter each time don't compute in my head.

If anything ever goes wrong with your engine, and it needs to go to the dealer, make sure to remove it first.

I considered Baxter too but ended up spending a lot less on an aluminum oil filter housing (with built-in Fumoto valve) from @Jowett and an oil pan Fumoto valve from eBay. It’s so easy and clean to do an oil change that I don’t even need an oil pan anymore. Highly recommend.

With the spin on adapter, you will get all that oil from the canister and oil filter housing and whatever the adapter holds, flooding out around the spin on filter when you loosen it.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea to use a spin on filter adapter, it will give you more choices for filters and not require special tools, but I doubt it will reduce spillage/mess. It will also add empty volume to the cavity that the oil pump needs to fill before pressure at the bearings, so low/no oil pressure time at first start after oil change might be increased.

Edit: Or maybe it reduces empty volume? I am not exactly sure how this attaches. It looks like it replaces the cartridge housing and eliminates the volume of that housing, but the center pillar looks like it's too tall to allow engagement of the threads. Maybe that part is spring loaded?

that baxter adapter is legit, it's spring loaded pretty much mimicking the cartridge structure and fits nicely
my old OEM cartridge had mystery oil weeps so I gave baxter a try, it works great.
For me it's not about reducing the mess, in fact, it's a bit messier if you use a spin on filter.
I just like to have fewer moving parts.
In the cartridge style filter, you have to replace filter, line it correctly, do the big o-ring, and if you want to avoid mess, do the small o-ring too. None of that is hard there're just steps that you have to do and potentially introduce mistakes.

I'm also looking to convert after my last free oil change from the dealership. I did this on my 2008 Mazdaspeed3 and had no issues for 8 years owning the car after the conversion. If for some reason I don't do the spin on conversion I will at least replace the plastic housing with the Lexus metal one.

Well, it does mine. Plus, I’d just rather have a spin on filter.

    Way ahead of you.

I also plan on getting the Fumoto valve for my oil pan.

It retains more oil post rotation, AND it’s spring loaded, so it seems to be better than the factory set up, which I also like. As far as the spillage from a spin on, I can easily control that, so for me, it’ll be less mess.
So, looks like I’m gonna pull the trigger on one.
    Thanks guys.

I gotta say no to this gismo. Oil change does not feel right without hot oil running down your arm in your pit.
