I am a fan of plastidip but more for trim pieces (grilles, bumper covers, etc) and not wheels. If you use the true metallic plastidip and glossifier properly it can certainly look great but never quite as good or easy to keep clean as a quality DIY paint job. Slapping on a few coats of regular matte plastidip does look tacky/cheap...like your seventeen year old flat bill wearing neighbor got ahold of your truck. Spray painting steelies usually turns out great and is quite durable if you take your time and don't skip any steps.

If you do dip them, highly recommend the anthracite grey color in the vid below:

Thanks. It's all in the prep work. If you just go and spray without prepping, they will peel. If you spray too close it will run, if you spray too far away it will have a rough texture. If the can is not set in warm water between coats it will have a rough texture. Lots of tricks for good results.

 You say that as if law! I actually (personally) think dip on trim is “tacky”. Maybe not tacky but I’d rather permanently paint those pieces (unless I can buy the part example sr grill bezel/door handles etc). But for the chrome interior I’d rather paint over dip. Not sure why but that’s me.

prep is key no matter how it’s applied. And it will make or break the outcome period. Oh I still plan on dipping my wheels, I already have the bronze paint and it’s absolutely matte (another imo gloss looks “tacky”) that grey isn’t a bad color but on mgm it would be to much and on the plain side. Now I’ve never had bronze wheels before so I am taking a leap on the bold side which is why the dip.

Being a blue collar worker, 35 something and a family man, I can feel the disgusting glaze from your direction while I wear my slightly curved but more flat billed hat which sole purpose is to keep my balding head from burning. Have you tried wearing sunglasses and a traditional curved hat (maybe it’s just my balding head shape- it will not work). Pretty sure the beard would give it away I’m not 17 though. Oh and no I don’t wear my jeans down to my thighs, I have been vaping for the last 4 yrs though because cigarettes kill and despite the dirty looks I’ll still let you borrow a tool or give you a jump if needed :D:hattip:

I painted mine with midnight black Rustoleum metallic, clear coated them, and added emblems from ebay. They look gunmetal in the sun and black in the shade.

Agree with beefier tires, like my 265/75/16 Duratracs, and am happy to report that I've been through 2 harsh winters, and my Plasti dip has held very well with my OEM rims.

Owner is @mikestaco17 I think he’s on skinny 33s (255/85/16) which fit without rubbing at stock height. That said I think he’s on spacer lift.

gonna get these myself. Best part is if you want to change the color to something else you can just paint the cap.

I think they look ok as-is, or get a set of take-offs from a different trim. Some of the pre 2020 styles may be pretty cheap right now.

Plastip works good and it's cheap.

In hindsight I should have left my lugs and center cap black but that's up to you to decide. Whatever color you want it's up to you. And peel it off if you don't like it.

I'd go regular paint. Something I did on my old Jeep was to leave the rim silver for nice contrast (at the time, my Jeep came from the factory with essentially the same look). I'll dig up a picture momentarily.

Here you go! I know these wheels aren't really similar to stock steelies...but you can see how the contrast adds to the look of the wheel. I'd try leaving the center cap silver and see if you like it too. Use plastidip if you're not completely sure you'll like the look.

lol that was all just my .02, of course. I was referring to the flat bills with the gold sticker still stuck on the brim if that makes any sense. Im 31 so deff not giving anybody old man stares by any means (yet) haha. Wish I could do bronze wheels too but I feel like it doesn't look as good with Inferno. MGM should be nice.

My Plasti dipped rims are plenty for me. I dipped them 4 years ago, and have had them through NY winters, and 2 tire changes. After the last tire change last spring I gave the rims a very light respray for a few nicks, and being slightly faded(outside storage)
