I put a lift kit and larger tires on my 2021 Tacoma. Is there any way to recalibrate the speedometer?

Welcome to TW. Google Speedometer recalibration and many products will come up. Hypertech seems to get a lot of mentions here. Also, post a pick of your truck here so we can oogle it and tell you what a nice choice you made.

What size did you go from and what size did you go to? When I went from 265/70/16 to 265/75/16 the reading actually became more accurate. It is very common that from the factory actual vehicle speed is less than what is displayed.

    Hypertech

    https://www.hypertech.com/speedometercalibrator.aspx

    Or Rough Country

    https://www.roughcountry.com/speedometer-calibrator-90043.html

These are basically the same units that I can find. The Rough Country is cheaper priced.

And before purchase try comparing GPS speed to Speedo to see if correction is necessary. There is usually a percentage of leeway to make up for tire wear differences.

Thank you everyone for the responses. I'll definitely do some research on these suggestions.

Oddly enough, I just returned from the Lithia Toyota dealership here in Billings, MT and they told me that even they cannot recalibrate the speedometer. Basically they could change what the speedometer reads but the computer would read differently and throw an ABS code. This came from their master technicians but at the same time, this is THEE worst dealership around here. They have an attitude of "we're the only Toyota dealership for over 100 miles, so we can do and say pretty much whatever we want". They give dealerships a bad name

Nope, not with 2021's and up. Hypertech / Rough country does not work. Been there, tried that. So far it seems that no one has a solution for 2021 and up. If you find something to the contrary please let us know. BTW, for anyone interested, I have a Hypertech for sale that will work with older Gen 3's, 2020 and before.

EDIT: I realized today that I did not have the latest firmware installed when I tried it before. Updated the firmware today and it will allow me to select a 2021 Tacoma, so it looks promising that it might work after all. Apologies to pocket_geek for questioning his success with the unit. I'll reinstall it and report back. I sure opw it works as I changed tire sizes (285/70-17) and next week I'm having 5.29's installed. It would be nice to have the right speed displayed.

How long have you driven it since installation? After about 50 miles it caused all kind of error codes on my truck. Also what trim is yours? Mine is Off Road with Premium Off Road and Advanced Technology packages. I think part of the conflict is TSS related. Same part# BTW.

Off Road with the Technology Package. I've driven about 250 miles with it so far.

I have the Hypertech installed on my 2017, and it works great. I also helped install one on a friend’s 2020 with no issues. I assumed all 3rd generations would work the same.

I wanted to follow up on this, I realized I had not downloaded the latest firmware when I tried the Hypertech unit a few months back. I just downloaded the new firmware and it looks like it will let me select a 2021 Tacoma. It looks like pocket_geek may be right. I'll install it again later today and report back with my experience. I may have misled the OP, sorry if that's the case.

    From the Hypertech web site:

"Hypertech’s In-line Speedometer Calibrator Module is an in-line module to correct the speedometer and odometer for non-stock tire sizes and/or rear gear ratios. This module is perfect for vehicles with computers that don’t allow for tire size and/or rear gear ratio correction or re-calibrate for tire sizes and/or rear gear ratios outside the range of programmers."

For those of you with the Hypertech/Rough Country calibrator, did you notice any improvements with how the transmission shifts? With the odometer being corrected, is your Avg Tank MPG display closer to being correct?

Yeah, I've read that. More interested in what people here who have had it on the truck a while have to say about it than some dude who may/may not have posted his review after driving it for 20 minutes.

He mentions it won't affect the miles to empty on a full tank, which doesn't make sense. If the odometer is corrected, the miles to empty should be corrected since it's calculated on actual mileage vs the truck thinking it's not going as far due to larger tires. He also doesn't mention transmission shifting or tank avg mpg's.
