I am replacing the rusted out fuel tank on my 2003 Tacoma. Obviously I am looking for a cheaper option than OEM and see that RockAuto offers a Spectra Premium for $244 and a Dorman for $165. Is there a real quality difference between these tanks to warrant the price difference?

I'm sure a lot of you have had to replace your fuel tanks due to rust, which replacement tank did you use and how was the quality?

Dorman is a name that gets thrown around for a lot of OEM replacement stuff, so it's probably a decent brand.

However, I would say that the extra cost is pretty minimal, all things considered. $165 for a fuel tank just seems TOO cheap to me, lol...

    I went with Toyota !!

You get what you pay for.

Spectra had problems with spot welds failing after the tank was installed .

If you live in the rust belt figure on a fuel pump bracket and fuel lines

I thought about just getting an OEM tank, and its not too late to order one but the prices are 3x the Spectra. I also ordered an OEM filler neck and a new fuel pump. I guess ill have to wait until I drop the tank to see the condition of the sending unit bracket.

For what it's worth, I have a few Dorman parts on my truck and I never had a problem with them.
