    Hey folks!

    I have a quick question regarding my 1998 Tacomas SR5 4x4 with a 2.7 liter engine.

I’m replacing the valve cover gasket and the old spark plug tube seals. I’ve already removed the old spark plug tube seals and am getting ready to install the new ones. I just can’t remember if the top of the seal was flush with the top baffle or if was seated completely inside the valve cover. I thought it was flush. In other words, I’m looking at the depth of seal installation.

    I appreciate any help.

I just did this on my ‘03 3.4. On the 3.4 it will only go so far in before bottoming out. Not sure on the 2.7, but the 3.4 has little metal tabs that you tap back over the seal.

I sought input on this topic a few months ago and it seemed to be a 50/50 split regarding which side is up and which is down. Personally it makes most sense to me that the flat side sits on the valve cover (and goes as far down as you can get it) and the conical/rounded side faces into the engine allowing for it to easily slide onto and around the spark plug tube.

Correct, you want it to slide over the tubes on install.

I personally install them flush with the valve cover surface and not all the way in, but its not a huge difference.

Excellent, I thought it was flush’s how I installed the seals.

    Thanks for the replies!
