AFAIK they don't make 9/16" spark plugs. 5/8" and 15/16"...

EDIT: every car/truck I've seen is 5/8", only thing I've seen 15/16 on is a lawn mower...

There are 4 sizes for SAE Spark Plugs:

9/16 - Ford Plugs ( I think these are the ones that break off ) [IMG]

5/8 ( 16mm ) This is what you need for the Tacoma.

    3/4

    13/16

    Metric sizes are:

16mm ( 5/8 ) This is what you need for the Tacoma.

    18mm

    21mm ( 13/16 )

Yes, Ford 3 valve V8s use a 9/16" size plug. The early plugs were a 2 piece design and if you didn't remove and clean them every 20 to 30 K miles the carbon buildup would seize them into the head.
