Spark plug not coming out

    Hey guys, could really use the help. Middle spark plug on the driver side won’t break loose. I’m really cranking on it but I’m getting worried I’m using too much force. The ignition coil has some brown stuff on it not sure if it’s related. Sprayed PB blaster in the hole, currently waiting. Any advice?

    I would let the penetrating oil sit for a while then try to work the wrench back and forth to see if it breaks free. The driver side is hard to reach so make sure the plug socket is straight on if you are using extensions and swivels.

    Cold or warm engine? If cold start it and try with warm/hot engine. But first you will have blow out ( compressor) that PB blaster. Brown coil indicates you had loose spark plug from factory, known issue. Probably carbon build up on that plug/threads now, causing it not to come out.

    Make sure that you are applying proper counter torque pressure to the ratchet head.

    Thanks guys, I’ll let that blaster soak a little while and then blow it out and warm the engine. Do you guys think I ought to replace that coil?

    Doing this with a hot engine made all the difference for me getting the spark plugs out.

    I would replace the coil. Down the road if you notice a slight misfire, you can pretty much rule out the middle driver side coil.

    Thanks guys, another question. One of the spark plugs has quite a bit of oil on it. Is that normal?

    No, not normal, you should replace the gasket, which I believe is one piece with the valve cover

    how many miles and how much oil was in there? You can probably let it sit a bit if it’s just a slow leak

    That oil looks like its at the top of the plug rather than from the combustion chamber side which to me would be better than the reverse side Leaky seal on valve cover/spark plug tube? Did you add any penetrating oil before removing it?

    Didn’t add any penetrating fluid and the truck has 130k miles. Thing is, I don’t notice a leak anywhere in the engine bay. Is this the valve cover gasket that needs replaced then? I just replaced the oil a week ago and put 6 quarts in, it’s sitting right in the middle of the dip stick

    How long have plugs been in there and are they they the long life 100,000 plugs.
    Different opinions on the matter but some suggest that they be pulled at 1/2 that time, inspected and re-installed (also different opinions on a VERY light coat of anti-seize)

    My 2015 has a change interval of 30K miles with the OEM plugs which is short enough I don't feel need to pull them half way

    not sure, I bought the truck at 100k miles and decided to take care of them today at 130k they could have been there since factory honestly but the previous owner was pretty good about maintenance

    Do 3rd gens have different brand plugs on either side of engine like the 2nd gens? If so, that might tell the OP if the plugs were ever changed before.

    It is spark plug tube gasket. You need to press it into the valve cover. By removing the valve cover it is advised to replace the cover gasket as well

    Since the change interval on that year was 100,000 miles I believe and you bought it at same they may never have been changed. Not sure if toyota recommends the 1/2 way treatment or not.

    All spark plugs on my V6 are Denso FK20HBR8.

    according to the dealer they are all the same plug.
    @Vlady is this something that needs to be changed right away? We are moving soon across the country and I’m hoping to hold off if possible
