I'm replacing my spare tire, due to bigger tires, with a matching rim and tire. From what I've read, the 3rd gen tacos don't have a TPMS sensor in stock spare tire. Because of this, I went ahead and purchased one so I can install it on my spare tire. Couple of questions:

I know the new sensor has to be programmed to the truck for it to function correctly. Is this something any tire shop can do or is this a dealer thing?

Once programmed and installed, if I ever need to use the spare tire will the truck just recognize it after reseting the tmps via the button on the bottom of the dash?

Essentially, the end goal is to have a matching 5th wheel and tire with a TPMS sensor so that the truck doesn't flash any lights on the dash if I ever have to use my spare tire.

    Thanks in advanced!

When I got sensors for my Jeep, Discount Tire put in the sensors and programmed them. No dealer needed. I would suspect its the same for Toyota.

Not sure on how the vehicle responds to 5 sensors vs 4.

I just did the same, have yet to install the new rim and bigger tire in the spare location. The truck only supports 4 sensor IDs. When you swap in the fifth, you'll need to reprogram the sensors. The shop that did mine said it takes about 5 minutes and they'd do it whenever.

The reset only recalibrates the TPMS sensor position, so you'd use it after a 4 wheel rotation.

Previously, I had a flat and swapped in the spare (with the oem tires and spare). The tire pressure was still being read from the flat tire even though it was in the bed.

When you say "When you swap in the fifth, you'll need to reprogram the sensors." you mean like they have to replace the sensor from the flat and add the one from the spare?

No, all 5 tires have sensors when the new tires are put on. When you swap in the 5th (as a spare or part of a 5 tire rotation), they have to use a special TPMS tool to find the sensor and tell the truck the "new" (fifth) sensor ID.

The truck computer only holds 4 IDs at a time, and each TPMS sensor has a different ID.
