Yes, this question again but with a twist. Yes, I’ve searched but haven’t seen what I’m looking for...

Future planning for tires that may not fit in the stock location and to get some extra clearance - I can’t mount a large spare inside my shell since I use the entire bed for storage and sleeping 2 people. Would not like to mount on my roof rack to keep my COG low. Seems like a hitch swingout or bumper+swingout is the only way then, but would like to save weight and added length (tight trails), if possible.

Am I out of other options? Anyone seen creative ideas? Please link if I missed during my search...

    Cheers!

Get a chase truck to carry the extra stuff (tires, beer, bourbon, ice, etc).

Store it under your seat. Works great in emergencies.

You could go bed side mount like the old ww2 trucks. Look badass if you did it right

How about one of them stupid Wilco Hitch mounted tire carriers? You said you wanted clearance so this might not be a good idea.. Shouldn't be to bad for light offroading though.

Combine it with a no-cut HC bumper and life should be good.

With the Wilco and some attachments you might want it will be over $1,000. Might as well just add a fabbed swingout on the HC bumper IMO. I think some you can even take off now if I remember correctly.

Very true. Pulling it off when not wheeling / camping seems like a good idea.

Just modify the stock location to fit larger tires.

When I bought my HC swingout bumper it gave me a ton more space underneath and I can mount a 33" tire in the stock location under the bed.

Honestly haven't ever seen that - is he still running it like that? Wouldn't be any shorter than a rear swingout though, but probably a nice bumper for trees lol.

Now we're cookin' with gas :bikewhoops:

Have you seen this on a taco before??

I am on the shorter side, sounds more comfy than phone books since my seats aren't fancy power adjustable.

Yeah, this might be what I have to end up doing - I'll have to look into which swingouts are removable. The Wilco and Rigd ones seem a lot more lightweight than the swingouts but easily $1k, not sure how the Rigid Armor one (~$400-$500) does on trails either.

Might have to be a removable swingout for normal trips plus a bed mount for wheeling-only days.

Any chance you have a link to a photo?

Yep, I know 33's will fit there with mods or a HC bumper - would just be nice to get even more clearance if I'm already cutting and paying for a HC rear.
Appreciate everyone's input so far

ditch the prehistoric air pneumatic tire setup and the need for a spare all together...

invest in some new age airless tires...

no flat tire blow out worries from here on out!!!

I actually ran Find N Things in a Mega Cab Ram with one of these and it made a great hitch skid and still only touched it a handful of times. They're pretty nice units.

you can fit up to a 295/70R17 underneath the truck in the stock location. you just need to slighty hammer or bent the 2 metal guide tabs underneath and keep the tire close or up against the back of the hitch receiver.

as far as swings i would check out the Westcott Designs dual swing. USA made, its very modular and runs either 2 spares, or 1 spare & 65qt cooler, or 1 spare and Traeger grill, or grill & cooler. it has Hi-lift mounts and mounting tabs for chase and/or tail lights. It also has a folding cook table option and uses a bolt in wedge system to keep the rack from wobbling around in the receiver.
