Conicelli is good, though that part is $8+ shipping for me making it $40.

I'd suggest checking shopping.google.com and Amazon and eBay. Looks like about $38 is the best I'm finding delivered. I suppose I ought to get this at some point.

I bought it from Amazon after reading this thread in the morning. I forgot to check conicelli. I saw this in my email.

    1. Lower the spare
    2. Press the lock into place
    3. Raise the spare

    Just installed mine Tuesday.

It was a piece of cake, just like @beergeek said. I did need a mallet and socket to tap the lock into place though. You'll know when you see it. If not, I took pix! Let me know if you want them.

I didn't need anything outside the instructions. Took a few attempts to get the lock seated in the receiver.

Mine is similar to this... :) Took a peek around the garage and saw a bike cable and kryptonite lock not being used. Got underneath the truck and went through the center of the spare and onto the top frame of the truck. (Side note... I think this weekend i'm going to cover the key hole with some electric tape to keep dirt from going into it since it will be exposed to the elements. Don't need it to not unlock when I need it to.) Lol

I like to call it a deterrent lol

Most guys will see it and pass

Pros will take it if they want it, I'd rather the spare than a tailgate though...

Agreed. Just a deterrent to keep the honest folks honest. Hopefully they see it and pass me up for another easier target.

They took both of mine, first the tailgate, then the spare. I've learned my lesson.

+1. Padlock through a couple of the chain links. Only down is that you need to get under a ways to unlock. Like the cable-lock idea.

Does the OEM spare tire lock work with wheels other than the stock spare? (For example, aftermarket wheels)

Does anybody know of someone who has had the OEM spare tire lock fail to prevent theft? Curious, as I park in a lot where truck tires are stolen at a very high rate. Mainly Fords, but a guy lost one on his Ram last week. Ford guys won't even run with spares anymore. Too easy to cut the cables. The Toyota chain crank with the lock seems reasonably hard to bypass.

Does anybody know of an aftermarket Lock (with a key) that closes the Spare Tire rectangle access hole above the bumper? Seems like a much more elegant solution.

I put a trigger lock from one of my pistols in there. not very thick and all you really see is the key hole.

Went to go put my new spare on and I realized my lock wasn't there anymore. But I did notice that the tire carrier had a small round piece like pictured below. I think I can actually put a lock on it.

Not exactly sure how sturdy it is though. Will check again in the morning.
