...I have one on my 2017 Sport and I think it wise for me to know just how to access and use it before I actually need to...the salesman said, "don't worry about it, the tower will know how"...thats a BS answer and not good enough for me...I asked him about the service guys showing me and he said, "they won't be so willing as they don't really get paid for it"...just more BS...

...does anyone know the proper way to use this thing...once again Toyota has absolutely nothing anywhere for me to find it...unless it's right under my nose...

    ...thanks if you do !!!

Yeah, it has a one-way inserted star nut that compresses into the original opening on the lowering crank. The face of of the lock is the same as the McGard style wheel locks. I believe they're the OEM for this piece also. The key is just a separate attachment that goes onto the hook of the original tool that's inserted into the lowering crank.

Operate as normal, but having a flashlight handy is recommended, so you can align it easily. The tool is not as "intuitive" at finding the original hook and slot.

Hey Folks...thanks...I think I can figure out what GP said, lemme ask...is this the same as the "non-locking" way ?? ...it sounds like it is, so I wonder where the "locking" comes into play ??

It's just a special key that makes it "tamper resistant". Doesn't actually lock anything with a "click".

...ah HA !! ...GP...ok, that makes more sense I guess...the non-locking would just insert and everyone's bar would unlock it...the locker uses a more uncommon key...thanks buddy...i appreciate you doing the heavy lifting !!!

This is exactly how you attach it and the keyed face is slightly visible.IMG_8572.jpg

Can they put these on the catalytic converter bolts? I hear of more Tacoma cats getting stolen, than spares.

I have the lock as well. Took me a minute to figure out when I was going over the vehicle at home since dealer didn't do a walk around either.

They could get in a lot of trouble for that if you were to get hurt because you didn't know how to use something they were supposed to show you.

Wow ... I never even looked at mine... I thought the wheel tire just dropped down and that was that.

Are all trucks keyed like that?? and is the lock key and the part it fits into all part of the spare tire kit??

Reason I ask this is cause I sold my locking lugs with my wheels and tires including the key ... did I fuck up again??
