Doing some work on the rear and dropped the spare tire, found the damage pictured below.

The spare is new from Feb 2021, and it’s been several months since I last dropped it. Best I reminder all I did was snug the lift until it wouldn’t squeak when I bang on it. I don’t think this damage is from rubbing, seems to be deformed.

Anyone else find damage on the spare like this?

It’s from being to tightly put on. Also I’ve seen many undercarriages and I would say it’s ok as a spare. I put mine in the truck bed under the cap for easy removal.

Yeah that’s pressure damage. Still works great as a spare.

Every tire I ever seen on all makes and models, when mounted to crossmember, has that mark. All is normal.

Yeah my spare had it the first time I dropped it. Truck was about 6 months old at the time. The next time I put the spare up I just didn’t over tighten.

I cut out a couple rubber pieces from an old truck bed mat and placed them on the sidewall of the spare where it makes contact with the cross member. Let those pieces take the brunt of that pressure.

I’m just putting on 3M mastic rubber tape on the cross members. We use it on mtn bikes for chain slap…try it anyway to see if it helps.

Yeah same here after swapping mine out. Definitely not gonna have it up there as snug this time, and might try putting some padding on the cross member.

That will go away after a while, once it's off the spare mount.
