    Lifted,
I am going to install a new Spare Tire Harness under the bed. Issue: old one not there, and the new one was delivered without bolts.
Does anyone know what size bolts it takes?

    Thanks for your time.

    Yes
I ordered part from Amazon. Says it is for my vehicle. but when delivered, has no screws or bolts. Do I need them? or possibly are they a part that is already existing and I just take them out and screw them back in once I put the part in its place. ???
    I will be looking tomorrow.

UPDATE: I was just about to send this and friend next door told me my truck was leaking water. Checked it out. Looks like the water pump is out. Going to attempt to replace pump and thermostat to hopefully fix. Never did work like this before, but here goes. Any suggestions or help of what to watch out for will be helpful.

    Lifted,
also, can't seem to find right size for spare tire tools. Found a set on Amazon but says it is for 2005 and above. Yet, the part says good for fit for my vehicle... anyone know if that is right?
Bought the truck used and lots of stuff missing. Doh... Engine is great though... so far... lol

If your going to be digging in there, might as well throw a timing belt on it too

There’s a fb group 1st gen Tacoma part out and salvage. Might be able to find a tool kit there.

    Lifted,
    Yes, thanks for the reply...

Here is where I am at with all this...

re: spare tire hoist, bolts are still under truck. I can not get to the bolts to remove them as there is no space between the top of the bolts (on the spare tire support beam) and the bottom of the truck bed.
However, there are bolts on each side of the truck bottom, 3 I think on each side, that can be removed to lower the support beam and then I can remove the bolts, 6 of them, for the spare tire assembly, and install the next. Then I just go backwards and put the bolts back in the way I took them out on the spare tire assembly support beam. After that, all should be good.

Re: Water Pump. Yes, thank you for that info as well. My neighbor is a mechanic. He said the same thing. He is doing the work at this time. He is also replacing the thermostat , and a couple other belts that weren't totally that perfect since it is all taken apart.

I will check out the links you sent. I do need to still get a used tire and wheel for the spare and the tools to remove said spare tire when needed.

HUCKLEBARY NOTE: please forgive the question, but I am new to all this posting. Can you send me a link where to find the fb group 1st gen Tacoma part out and salvage

First Gen Tacomas had (or have?) a safety recall on the spare tire carrier. You might want to check with your local dealer and see what they say. Maybe your vehicle was never replaced and they will do it under the recall. Or if your Amazon tire carrier is OEM, they might just install that for you. It's worth asking, worst they can say is no.

If you end up doing the spare tire carrier yourself, sometimes it's easer to lift the bed off the frame to access the bolts.

I have no information on the water pump and timing belt.

    Lifted,
Ok, I found that I need to remove the Spare Tire Assembly from inside the bed. By removing the bolts, the broken assembly will drop and I can then install the new one.
I will update once I get done with that.

    Lifted,
As far as the water pump, Huck was correct. My neighbor, mechanic, said that better to replace all from a kit, belts, timing belt, water pump and thermostat. Also, replaced the temp sensor.
Now, a new issue. The temp gauge on the dash is showing HOT from the start of vehicle even though the truck is not overheating. This is why I replaced the temp sensor as well.
Now, I think I am looking at replacing the gauge panel on the dash, the one behind the steering wheel.

I am also looking to find spare tire tools, as non came with the vehicle when I purchased it.

Good news is that the engine and transmission work great. Only has 190,000 miles on it so far.

Any advice or help would be appreciated. Until then, I love the truck and will keep doing what I need to make it whole.

    Thanks everyone.
