I'm trying to find a spare key blank for my 1st Gen (2000) Tacoma.
Does anyone know of a good source? I've searched Amazon but I honestly can't tell if I'm what I'm finding is correct... are there other model cars/trucks that have matching blanks? (Camrys, Tundras, etc?)

Any hardware store that makes keys or even Walmart has them.

Would they have compatible flip-key blanks?

    Dangit.
Any ideas where I can find out which key blanks are compatible? Maybe I can do a reverse lookup.

The Toyota Part Number for our key blanks is 90999-00185

From what I read here, https://www.yotatech.com/f116/best-key-blank-248615/ , it seems like only Toyota keys should be used since others have had a problem with other keys braking. I've used various Walmart and hardware store keys and the only problem I've had is bending.

Yeah ... i'm more interested in seeing if they could use a slightly more modern blank that fits a flipkey ... not sure I want to pay $50US for the all-in-one sold through the user here...

there was a guy on here who made them, but he stopped a long time ago.

The problem is you need the same FCC ID for the key you want to use. So idk if you'll be able to find any

you can go to any place that makes keys and they will match it up (I believe it's like a 35R or something). I've used a copied key for over 8 years without problems. It has the black plastic grip.

I had a few made and swap them out from time to time. I keep my original in a box and my "metal" spare on my 2nd key ring just in case.

I bought a Toyota OEM key off Amazon. I went to a local locksmith to have it cut which cost around $15 dollars. Think they key was around $10. Here is the Amazon page.

Before this I went to WalMart and had their auto department cut me a key. The key code is like 35R IIRC. They key worked fine but I didn't like how cheap it felt so I went with an OEM key.

Made a few extra for my 2003 when I worked at Ace. TR47 was the blank for Hy-Ko/Hillman brand keys. Any Ace worth their weight should have those blanks on hand

they aren't "chipped" keys so any place that does keys will have it

if you want a real Toyota key they sell them on ebay, the dealer would charge you like $25 for one http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOYOTA-GENU...ash=item236f77e7cf:g:cdsAAOSw4A5YusBI&vxp=mtr

Summer 2016 I ordered 2 OEM key blanks off eBay.
Wal mart cut copies free. No responsibilities if key wouldn't work.
New cut keys work smoother than the one copied from.

I am lucky friends that are Lock Smiths .

Any of the correct blanks will work .

If your bending blanks you have mechanical lock issues that need looked at .

I'm specifically trying to find a matching flip-key though.
1st Gens didn't have that option. But, if another Toyota uses the same un-chipped locking mechanism/ cylinder-thingy that did have a flip-key... that would work.
