So on a 2nd gen tacoma to keep the rpms lower, good power and mpg as high as possible with say a 295 75 16 should I change gears or leave them stock? I'm looking at that size because the new ko3 is available in it. I may also go with 255 85 16 falkens

I currently have 285s so I figure the 255 will be close to the same. Maybe a slightly better.

I'm pretty sure all it's intended to do is change the shift points a little so you hold a lower gear a bit longer than normal.

There's a certain tune available that actually makes the ECT switch into a true tow mode, would be great when you are hauling that heavy ass boat.

Can you give a little more insight into "true tow mode"?

If ECT is on all the time for daily driving, you won't notice a difference.
My truck will actually pulsate while coasting at 45-55 if left on.
When it works great is going up hills, getting up to highway speed from an on ramp and passing people on the interstate.
Other than that I don't use it.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/overland-torque-tune-ott-by-overland-tailor.759590/

The Sport transmission mapping we have available for many applications takes the Standard transmission tune we have to the next level. Not intended for the casual driver. Best suited for vehicles who are supercharged or use their vehicle at higher RPM/load for extended periods such as pre-running. The shift points for our sport transmission tune are designed to keep the motor higher up in the RPMs. You'll find upshifts occur at higher RPM and downshifts happen much earlier than the Standard transmission tune. This is often a standard option on vehicles with ECT.

we can do it, but honestly it’s pointless unless you are on a dyno.

If you want gear lock trade in for a MT :notsure::notsure:

I have an MT, it's just not a Tacoma.

And I disagree. There's a good case to be made for gearlock on long highway drives with rolling hills.
