So the fitting is in metric am I reading that right. If so then it won't be in NPT it'll probably be some european pipe thread thus needing a different drill bit size than 1/2". That's if I'm reading that right.

Don't trust with 100% certainty of what drill bit size to go with that's put on the packaging of the tap they are usually off because they are going for what most people will have in their drill bit index. I usually reference a tap drill card. But I also have a full set of machinist drill bits in all the different sizes.

no more than my last 15 which was from Georgia. original owner took good care of it, plus now it qualifies for the replacement because of where it came from so I’m not worried.

Yeah I got one. Even if it didn't come from somewhere that "qualifies" I think you could make a good argument for the SE and our weather

I have this little expensive bastard right here:
    https://www.amazon.com/Tools-Hanson-Machine-Fractional-26377/dp/B0000DD4KW/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3T59RBYXR9XBG&keywords=irwin+tap+and+die+set&qid=1569759684&sprefix=irwin+tap%2Caps%2C223&sr=8-2

Figured out the wife's Amazon pw, this is the tap I bought:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011IS9GKC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and seperate matching die. 9/16-24. I misspoke about metric, I meant that typical store bought taps that I could find were 9/16-12, I needed fine thread.

    The pipe:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H9K5PE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The picture doesnt match the pipe, the wall thickness is fairly thick.

Ugh, now you've got me thinking that I dont have the correct tap for that air fitting. Ill double check when I get home but I'm certain that I double checked with calipers when the tap arrived.

You'll never get a pipe thread to seal using a United extra fine thread. Pipe threads seal because they are tapered that tap does not cut a tapered thread it is juts tapered at the tip to allow easy starting of the threads. You need an actual pipe thread tap. That is more than likely your issue not drilling out the hole.

Ok, I get what you're saying. I've got the wrong tap for the threads I'm looking for. Which is weird because I took the air chuck to the hardware store to check it against one of those thread testers for NPT. They had 2, one for Standard/Metric bolts and a seperate for NPT. I checked it against the NPT. Fudge. They didn't sell a tap large enough to hit what I was looking for so I went to the next best thing, Amazon. Second part for clarity, I wasn't using the tap to drill out the holes, I was using a drill bit. I never got to the part where I got to tap the threads, so that would have been my next hiccup, so thank you for saving me messing up a third pipe. When I get home from work, Ill have to double check what exact tap I need.

The size should be listed on your fitting. Just make sure the tap is labeled NPT and not UNEF or something along those lines. You're welcome.

My guess is its going to be either 3/8 or 1/2 NPT, since the next size up at 3/4 is bigger than the OD of the pipe I'm trying to put threads into. At this point, it might be cheaper to just cut the pipe to length and find a machine shop to put threads on it since I'd have to spend more money on drill bits and a NPT tap set. 37/64th and/or 23/32nds drill bits an the lower bits to build up to the opening while still trying to not blow out the side of the pipe. $32 for the tap set. Hmm.. Found a tap/drill bit for same day 1/2 NPT tap, 23/32nds bit for 14 bucks .. struggle. Do I risk it? -- Yeah, I risked it but I'm not paying 12 extra bucks for same day.

Package deal? Trades (I usually don’t know what I need until I see it)? :notsure:

I think I even have a mounting plate with quick release for the fridge/freezer...would need to try and find it. Was going to put it on the bedslide.
