I went to the Sound Deadener Showdown link and it has changed completely. It is no longer a showdown site, testing several products. It is informational; regarding different types (not brands) of material and how they help.
I found it to be a lot more helpful in regards to the proper application of materials and how they help.
I believe he is marketing his own products now so it is not very helpful in objectively picking a manufacturer. Since I found his original "showdown" to be very well presented he may very well have the best products now.

his demonstration video of CLD tiles is the definitive response regarding how silly it is to put three layers of CLD on a panel.

    sort of back on topic......

has anyone done just the ensolite in on the roof?
seems like just for quieting the cab, ensolite should do the trick.

Gray wire, Some lights in the bed area, and some character marks throughout.
The tailgate would be a good place to start. :D It really helps deaden the sound of cars rearending you when you slam on your brakes to see if they are paying attention.

Has anyone tried the expandable spray insulation in the roof panel? I was thinking this might be a quick and dirty way to insulate the roof. Just a thought concept, but put a small hole in the headliner and spray this expanding material in. Of course, you would never be able to remove the headliner after doing this.

Just a thought. Anyone try any spray-on insulation?

Somebody correct me if Im wrong but here's my thoughts on the roof.
I figured I would put down some Damplifier since its a little thinner than the Daplifier Pro. ( I already have a box of both). I think it would be best to keep the application sparing and also make sure the strips are not so heavy that the weight would make them prone to dropping off in mid day heat. Then a layer of ensolite, also applied in smaller but contiguous pieces.
When trying to take off the "B" pillars previously I found it a little difficult to remove the upper snaps and fasteners. I thought I might break something off so I stopped. Anyone find the same trouble there?

Remember that the visor hangers (front) and coat hangers(back) twist 9- degrees and come right out.....

I think it would be just that - quick and dirty... I would leave that stuff to homes and use the thin foam for auto. :)

I would very much recommend AGAINST spraying insulation into the headliner... it is very easy to remove and replace....

Lol @ the idea of sound deadener killing your MPG... 500lbs is idiotic and beyond the point of being pointless.

It doesn't weigh that much man. You could do most of the cabin efficiently and it might add 35lbs tops. Covering EVERY surface with one of the thickest brands might ad around 50lbs.

I've seen some people who cover every surface, but that is completely unnecessary and you quickly reach a point of exponentially diminishing returns with the stuff.

It doesn't work by blocking out sound, and acting like the material itself is repelling soundwaves isn't the right way to think when you install it.

It adds mass to what you are attaching it to, causing that, ie the door that is already there or the floorboard, etc. to not transmit sound through it. Take the floor board in front of the drivers seat, putting down 18x32" sheet on the drivers side is gonna block 90% of the sound that the material will ever block from that section of the floor. Covering over every space is a waste, but some people want to, and thats fine.

One big thing to remember though is that most of the noise in the tacoma is wind noise in my experience, sound deadening helped with road noise (which there wasn't alot of anyway) from things like passing vehicles, and it helps MOST with the sound quality of your stereo.

Also if you do the doors, don't do what I see so many people do and just cover the inner part of the door, you have to do the outside sheet metal of the door, covering the inner part doesn't help much of anything, there isn't enough coverage to block the sound in a significant way, and if you don't do the sheet metal then you don't know what the stuff can really do for the stereo, because the whole point is to have the stuff behind the speaker to keep sound inside and increase bass responce.
