What I use isn't asphalt based and has no smell. It is very similar to Dynamat except for the cost.

The FatMat I installed was actually asphalt based.

Even better than FatMat then! Where can one find this at HD?

It's with the HVAC stuff. Frost King is the brand, it's a duct wrap. 1/8" thick with a radiant barrier attached.
I tell ya, for the price and what it does it's a no brainer.

How much per for a 100 foot roll? For price comparison, FatMat is $150 and Dynamat is probably twice that.

I love the idea of sound-proofing, but even more attractive is the heat barrier. Has anyone one any real measuring on what difference this stuff makes on a hot day? Thanks ahead of time for your input.

Remember that dynamat, fatmat, raammat and all the other sound deadeners are for stopping rattles and making metal sound less hollow. If you want to create a good hot/cold barrier, and stop airborne sound, you need a closed cell foam. I installed Stinger sound deadening against all of the sheet metal, then sandwhiched a solid sheet of closed cell foam between the door and the door panel. Worked amazingly.

Here are the products I used.

    Closed cell foam-

I ended up spending just under 200 bucks for both, with all the install equipment (roller, tape, box cutter) Its not as cheap as hitting up Home Depot, but these products are specifically made for vehicles, so no worries about smells or chemicals.

I will get some proper stuff eventually to cover inside sheet metal of door. In my pics you can see that theres sound deadening sheets under the undercoating. For about $40 for both doors it made a pretty good difference. I was looking at the gtmat you can get off of ebay too. Seems like decent stuff.

I did my driver and passenger door today with frost king. Speakers sound better however I need new ones cause I discovered the foam around the speakers has a few splits.

Door latch was tricky, but its all together now. Door speakers definitely are more bassey, but its more echoey as well. Road noise reduction is minimal, most anything it limits engine noise.

Did you use an adhesive to make it stick? Or is there a sticky side to it?

One side is sticky. Easy to work with and I like what is does for road noise after it being in for a while.

What do you mean after awhile? Does it take time to actually produce full effects?

looks like the HD stuff is 18.77 per 15ft roll, so when you hit 100 feet your around $125 or so for it
