My issue is sound/power cutting in and out of driver-side door and tweeter speakers. It happens everyday, every time I drive my truck.

2016 Double Cab TRD Off-Road 4x4 with tech. pkg., but not with the upgraded JBL sound system.

I had new speakers, tweeters, and amps installed. I also had an EQ installed. However, the speakers and tweeters were installed last, and the factory speakers and tweeters experienced this same issue for months before I replaced them myself. AND, I've moved speakers around, with 3 different pairs, and have determined it's not any individual speaker. It's the location/wiring, driver-side door and tweeter. Sound/power cuts in and out, comes and goes, intermittently and simultaneously, and regularly. The kicker is that if I slap or bang on the dash, just above the steering wheel, it corrects it, at least temporarily, and sometimes for as long as I continue driving, until I stop and turn the truck off.

    What gives!!!???

Have you tried hooking up a random speaker directly to the amp(use the output for the drivers side door)?

Are you using a factory head unit?

Since the dash and front door speakers are wired together neither will work without the other. The fact you can bang the dash and get sound back likely means the harness connection at the tweeter is bad.

You said even the stock speakers had the same issue...did they run new wire when they did the amp or EQ install?

Not sure... my 18 has a driver's side dash tweeter issue. It is not the JBL but it hasn't worked since day one. Hopefully getting it fixed soon along with my axle.

The harness from the head unit front channel speakers has two wires into the tweeter and then two wires from there feeds the 6x9s in the doors, sounds like you have a pin loose in the tweeter 4 pin harness that feeds the 6x9s

I would check the 4 pin harness

JBL. That's all you had to say. It is a poor connection internally within the voice coil of the speaker. Remove the door panel and touch the speaker. It will start working if you press on it. That's just another reason why I fully regret buying the JBL speaker package when I did. The same issue happened to my passenger rear speaker long ago. I just ended up replacing the entire darn audio system as a whole. In time you will likely have to do so yourself.

It sounds like a a loose wire connection on the tweeter harness plug under the dash cover. Did you retain the OEM harness for the tweeter or did you/they cut the wires? If its OEM still just tug on the wires and see if any of the pins pull back. You could also get a voltmeter and measure the pins with the radio on, but be careful. I cant remember the exact orientation of the wires other than I know there are two + leads on one side and two - leads on the other. I believe going from the side with clip it's +,+,-,-. One wire will be the source into the tweeter and the other is going to the door speaker. They're in parallel so one set goes in and one set comes out to the door speaker. On the source set there should be power with the radio on and playing. If there's not or it drops out then the issue is from that point back to the radio. If its steady its on the speaker side.

Does it happen after a while of playing? Its also possible to be over driving or powering the tweeters resulting in cut out. You might also want to measure the current at the amp too.

I have not tried that. Yes, factory head unit, not the JBL upgrade option. Thank you

I agree, and yes the factory speakers had the same issue, after I had amp installed. I don't think they cut and ran new wire, as my aftermarket JBL speakers, purchased from Best Buy and installed myself, are connected to the factory wire harness. I believe ********* advises against this, but I'm not sure why.

Amazon has kicker replacements that are made for Suburus and they fit perfectly and sound great.

I agree and will check this again. I've gone in and shaken the wires with the truck running and couldn't replicate, but I will try again and take more time with it. Thank you

To clarify, this is not the factory JBL package. I purchased JBL Speakers from Best Buy and installed them myself. But I will try that. Thank you

I agree. Don't think they cut and used new wire, as the speakers are connected to the factory wire harness, which I believe ********* advises against, but I'm not sure why. It does seem to stop after playing for awhile, but I've usually slapped the dash by this time and have 'corrected it' manually. I will consider the voltmeter, thank you.

could be unrelated, but I'd give this TSB a look. you could take a look at the wiring harness yourself to see if there is any wear that's to blame.

I had issues with my driver side dash speaker. It was doing a distortion/"think paper on back of a fan" hum on certain frequencies/tones.

Brought it in and had the speaker replaced under warranty. The work order showed it had a short.

    2017 with JBL.

Ah those are the aftermarket jbl's. Those were built with very good quality, much better than the original equipment ones that you can buy from Toyota. If that is the case then it is possible that you have an actual wiring issue to the speakers themselves or maybe the speaker is defective which is worst case scenario.

Yeah, I think it has to be a wiring issue, as I've experienced the same problem with multiple sets of speakers, including the factory speakers, and then a set of Kickers that I bought, installed, and returned because of this. I replaced them with these JBLs that sound much better, but still have the same problem. I'm going to look at the tweeter again this afternoon and fidget with the harness and factory wiring...
