I apologize in advance if there's already another thread covering this topic, but from my time searching on this forum I haven't found any related to a Gen 2. Some background, in the near future I'd like to buy a second set of dedicated off-road tires and rims. I plan on going to Utah (Arches, Zion, Canyon lands etc..) I will soon have a 2.0" to 2.25" lift in the front (Bilstein 6112) and a 1.5" Icon AAL in the back. With that I'd like to know if anyone knows if 33x10.5xr16 tires will fit without any trimming and or a cab mount chop? And if so what kind of back spacing should I get with the rims to make them fit?

If they do fit w/o trimming and a CMC, are there any recommended tires other than Interco SS-M16? Thanks in advance for all your help.

That's probably because there isn't a 33x10.5x16 tire. :) Try 255/85-16 instead and you will find hundreds of posts.

    ^ This.

I run this size. I have 5100s set at 1.75, but actual lift is close to 2.5. I rub slightly on the UCAs at full turn and I rub the mudflap when the wheels are stuffed and turned. You don't want spacers or offset rims with 33s, unless you want to trim the wheel well. You want them to fit inside the well. This is a fantastic tire size for our trucks if it's a DD and you're looking for budget minded performance - you don't need to modify a bunch to make them work.

According to 4WheelParts they sell a 33x10.5R16LT - Super Swamper M16 (reason why I mentioned it) but they seem pretty pricey. If left with no other choice I will consider 255/85/16 which I've read numerous thread about, however I was interested in the Super Swapers because they seem like they could be a good compromise between everyone's go to 33" 285 and 255.

I would stick with a 285 or the 255's. I'm not too sure of how good the M16's are either.

I'm confused about your goals. They seem inconsistent.

On one hand you're unwilling to do minor trimming that's invisible to anyone who's not a Tacoma expert (plastic wheelwell liners, cab mount chop)

And on the other hand, you're looking to mount a dedicated hard core wheeling tire like an Interco M16. This is a tire that's typically mounted on a rig that's trail-only use, and often trailered to the trail head.

That said purely to answer your original question - a 33" x10.5" mounted on a stock factory wheel with factory backspacing theoretically ought to work pretty well. It's hit or miss whether any particular tire at that size will clear the factory upper control arm. Aftermarket wheels will have more negative offset, and you'll run into more clearance issues at the wheelwell.

    Naturally, mudflaps are gone.

For the UCA I'm going with the Icon UCA so I'm hoping that will eliminate that issue? If not I guess I just wasted some money. Mudflaps, I assume that much. I agree with the statement on the Interco M16, they might be a bit over kill, which is why I asked if there were any alternatives. However, going with high performance trail only tire does make some sense, these tires and rims would be my dedicated off-road set. I'd only swap these on when going on a sizable off-road trip, I'd swap my DD 265/70/r17 back on when I'm done.

Thanks eveyone for the advice about the rims (aftermarket having to make backspacing or offset), I guess I shouldn't have sold my OEM '15 take offs.

I'd go w/ the Cooper ST Maxx in 255. Which I'm currently considering. I'm not a fan of Interco/Super Swamper tires. They seem more geared towards mud and monster trucks than trail rigs. I ran some 37" Irocs on my TJ and wasn't very impressed at all. The Cooper ST Maxx has about an inch less center sections which should help minimize any trimming. The S-M16 is a LARGE 33x10.5. Over 33" tall and 11.4" center section compared to 32.8" and 10.2" for the Cooper. And I imagine the Cooper is way better on and off road and cheaper and likely easier to find in a pinch.

Awesome, thanks for the recommendation, I will look into the Cooper ST Maxx. Just to confirm are the 37" Icocs that you ran on your TJ are the same brand as the Interco and that's why you wouldn't recommend them based off your experience with the 37"?

Yes, they were Interco's rock crawling tire. The Irocs replaced Goodyear MTRs, the original, and like I said, was not impressed at all. The Goodyear was a much better tire.

On a side note, the Interco's generally run larger than similar sized tires from other manufacturers.
