17 with 11K miles and I have noticed some “soot” or black smudging from the exhaust. Is this normal or should I be concerned?
    Thanks, Dan. E6FC5F29-368A-4D96-B07B-37710A73C8F2.jpg

are you talking about all the grime on the paint or the spot where you swiped with your finger?
to me it all looks like road dust after a little morning dew condensed it a little

I know a feature of this Atkinson engine is that it has a self-cleaning feature that senses carbon build up and uses the port injection to clean parts of the injectors and other things. I wonder if this could be the cause?

Mine does the same. Common on DI engines.

Normal, even my 15 that was super white same thing. Everyone says don't get black, but white is just as much of a b*tch to keep clean as black.

Okay? o_O Have owned super white, black, mgm, radiant red, silver sky and silver mica tacomas. White right behind black was the worst to keep clean. But please by all means tell me I'm wrong.

How do you rate the MGM? Feel like I'm constantly washing, but it's the first car I've strived to keep clean.

I drove professionally for 10 years, all white vehicles. Most of my personal vehicles have been black. Black is my favorite by far, but looks disgusting 12 hours after a wash.

You can see what sits in my driveway from my profile pick.

If your white truck ever looks as dirty as the OP pic, its because you're a nasty ass who doesn't clean their truck.

It's not as bad as my black taco which showed dirt hours after cleaning it. It hides it but sorta dosent hide it either, its by far my favorite to look at color wise though. The white was great once I lifted it but white looks pretty boring in stock form, like a fleet vehicle. And contary to the poster above who is a "driving expert" it shows dirt, etc. fairly easy as well. I wash, polish/wax and baby my vehicles and super white has a tendency to get that staining above the exhaust no matter how often you clean it. I'm happy with MGM.

    I don't understand

I guess there is no way to prove how often it is washed, but if it helps the gf drives it (not as anal) lol. I can take a pic of the mileage, its not far off from the OPs mileage. Yea there's a little bit of dirt but nothing like a black would show, and no soot staining

It's common. This is just from 2 mins searching here. But I digress.

On white being harder to clean or the exhaust staining not being common, if the later see above.

On white bring harder to keep clean. Black gets dirty in 30 minutes and gets tons of little visible scratches. I think black looks the best when clean but it’s a major PIA to keep clean.

Look a few posts back of mine the MGM one. I agree black is the worst, had a black sr5 that was dirty 10 mins after washing it and scratches everywhere as you mentioned, but white is right behind in the pain department as far as colors for maintaining.
