Have had mine installed for a little over a week now, absolutely love the look of it and how much cleaner the JBL system sounds with this unit installed. I thought the cameras would be a little bit cleaner, and I would like a little more customization in the display. Everyone at TGP has been awesome, extremely responsive and great to work with.

One thing I can't seem to get rid of, anyone else have a constant rattle behind the head unit? If so, what did you do to fix. (Please, no TURN UP THE VOLUME, lol)

Hey @trd_semipro - I am researching this and got most of my answers. The last remaining question is about vehicle customization that the stock unit has such as door lighting, door lock controls, vehicle maintenance, Vehicle alerts, etc.. Does the 9500ES retain all these customization settings?

Really appreciate any help you can offer. And not to piss anyone off but I work at Sony and can get the unit for $350. TGP said they would sell the harness only, so i am happy but want to make I lose nothing by switching.

with the maestro rr you can get almost all of that. The outlier here is the vehicle maintenance reminders but the light delay, drl, door/hood open, tpms all is there

    Thanks, @Cement_Bane

But can you configure and customize the door to close after X speed or when gears shift from P? I am asking specifically if the head unit has the same UI that the Tacoma radio unit under Menu->Settings->Vehicle

    Not the exact same UI.
Settings - Application - Maestro - Maestro Settings - Vehicle Features - Vehicle Settings

yea pretty I’m happy with it. Not fully using all the features yet. Looking for get a sub next and then really diving into the sound settings. There’s a lot there to mess with.

I just installed the Sony 9500ES in my 22 Tacoma TRD Sport w/ JBL. It was an easy install. I also installed the mic in the factory location. The only issue is that media description and call info is not showing on the gauge cluster screen.

    I’ll contact TGP on Monday.

    Hey all

For those with the side cameras, do you see a view that looks like this? It comes in handy when going OR and needing to make sure you dont get close to anything

No, WiFi is not maintained. Bummer. I even ensured the hotspot was active before pulling out the factory head unit. No such luck.

Yes, you can maintain all the camera views. It's a little wonky because the original Toyota text is still there, as well as text from Sony. I'm thinking it's a software thing that makes the images look so crappy. Would be nice if Maestro could provide a solution.

    Hope this helps.

Anyone seeing carplay delay? i am seriously thinking of buying it but came cross few forums of people complaining that there is delay on carplay when using it, does this have wired/usb carplay or wireless only and if you have similar issues with yours.

For those with the 360 camera and this 9500es headunit from Trail Grid - can you still select the rear view camera from the sony screen? I have it installed and everything works exactly like stock with the cameras, side views and all, rear camera works when the truck is in reverse. But when i select the rear camera from the sony home screen - all i get is a black screen. I haven't been able to figure it out yet.

Looking into speaker upgrades now (I have the JBL system). I'm trying to figure out if I can use the OEM+ audio system with this headunit AND keep all of the camera functionality with the 360 system. Apparently they have an interface module that is supposed to replace the maestro unit - but I think i would lose the camera functionality, at least the 360 options, if I did that.

This is a limitation of the Maestro software. I haven't been able to get any of the functionality from the onscreen selectors. I.e. Camera activated by turn signal, speed activation, etc. I am hoping that they'll update the software to account for that. Until then, I use the manual Tacoma button.

KDMaxx tune, many interior mods, Wildpeaks A/T3W 265 75 R16’s,
I just installed this in my 21 pro along with the Kicker speaker package from Trail Grid. Sounds really good overall, but it seems like from the driver seat 90% of the volume is coming from the tweeters in the dash. When I put my ear up to the front door 6x9’s, the sound coming from them is just muddy and dull with no vocals or really instrument sound coming out of them. Is rear door speakers and the tweeters seem to be the only ones with crisp bright sounds. Is this normal? Should I be tweaking the crossover settings or does my trucks JBL amp handle all of the crossover of the speakers. My stock system was the JBL premium system, and the Sony es9500 and kicker speaker bundle were just plug and play installs. I’m just looking for some advice on the settings for the best sound possible. Don’t get me wrong it sounds better than stock, I just thought the front door speakers would put out a little more sound? Thanks for the help

    Reviving an old thread here:

For anyone that has this headunit, have you also been able to replace both front and rear cameras? My truck has the 360 system, which of course is completely useless, so Im wondering what front and rear aftermarket cameras are compatible with this headunit. If I had a high quality front and rear, I'd be fine with losing the side cameras.

I'm interested in this too. Debating between the Sony XAV-9500ES and Alpine iLX-F509.
