Installed not too long ago. So far I’m pretty happy with. Some might not like how much it sticks out but I don’t mind. Just happy to have CarPlay now.

Also installed the Oem Audio plus speakers. Sounds good IMO.

Did you pair that with the whole oem audio plus setup? Woofer amp and speakers? I’m looking to getting some car play in my 3rd gen but I’ve had the oem audio setup since 2017. Don’t want it to go to waste

thats next on the list. From what I can see it should be no problem but won’t know for sure until I get the rest of the system.
Planning on amp plus sub amp with dual subs.

Is this the Trail Grid Pro set up? Has anyone tried that set up with the multi terrain monitor package? I have that and would not want to lose its functionality like with the Stinger unit.

This is the Trail Grid Pro setup but I do not have the multi terrain monitor package as you might have guessed by my lack of CarPlay comment.

I don’t know too much about how that system works but I will say I have the anytime camera mod installed and that works.
when I select the rear camera from the stereo I can flip the anytime camera switch and get my front camera. But I can not see both feeds at the same time.
so I’m going to guess it won’t work with that. Those guys are pretty responsive via email if you ever wanted to ask them about.

I actually just installed this head unit in my car alongside an ABC setup with front camera. I can't seem to get anything to come through using the TGP harness. How'd you go about wiring it up?

I just matched plugs and plugged it in. I do recall the instructions say that the back up cam is already plugged from the meastro rr harness. for the ABC setup I didn’t change anything either.

Gotcha. I have thought I'd flipping the camera on, then using the switch. Apparently that does work for me lol I talked to the TGP guys via email and they told me to tap a couple wires together to get button functionality without those extra buttons. They said to get them work together you'll need to run a new wire connecting the "orange wire" from the override harness of the Anytime kit to the "purple wire with a white stripe" wire from the Sony harness.

Btw, is your camera button always illuminated, regardless of if you're running lights are on or not? I don't want it lit when the car is on during the day, but I'm not sure what I need to rewire

you mean the orange light indicating which camera is in use? If so then no. Only turns on when I get the feed. After I go back to the menu or CarPlay it turns off.

but don’t recall if when I select the front if it stays lit. I’ll have to try that when I get a chance today.

hadn’t thought about rewiring it so I can use the button anytime with selecting the camera. I guess I don’t mind selecting first in the menu.

I didn’t wire that part up. I got lazy that day. Haha. It’s on my list of things to clean up on the truck.

For anyone else who is trying to have their switch illuminate with the rest of the switches, I figured it out. You've gotta clip the blue wire (it's spliced into the constant power red) and then wire it into another light-switched power source. I t-tapped it into another button next to it.

To follow-up on the camera override, it indeed does work (without messing with any systems on the head unit) by running a new wire from the "orange wire" from the override harness of the Anytime kit to the "purple wire with a white stripe" wire from the Sony harness.

I've been researching this head unit for my 19 that has factory JBL amp. I've been wanting to ditch the factory HU so I can finally get rid of the JBL amp that I have wired to my JBL Fix86. With the built in DSP and LDAC support this seems like a solid route.

Is it possible to have the screen sit more flush with the dash? Looks about a 2-3 inch gap between the screen and bezel.

The gap isn’t that wide it’s closer. But it’s as close as you will get unless you move the main body in further to the dash

I just installed this units today. Overall really like how it turned out. Only negative I have is my rear camera and the newly installed front camera are very pixelated. Is anyone else experiencing that?

Not sure if this helps but I installed a Sony 5500 and the stock camera is much clearer than the stock head unit.

Hi Guys. I am considering the Sony XAV 9500ES for my 2016 Tacoma using android auto. Two questions. Is the display bright enough or does it suffer from washout on sunny days? Second, Is the wireless connection for car play /android auto strong & reliable? Thanks for any input.

Ive noticed the same on mine but to me it looks like it did on my factory stereo. I did expect it to look clearer.

I use apple CarPlay and the screen was nice and bright on sunny days. Happy with it.
As far as the wireless connection I did have some discount issues at first but after a reset of the unit it goes away.
Overall I would say this is a good unit to have in our Tacoma’s

The product description doesn't say anything about WIFI, or maybe I missed it. Does the OEM adapter retain WIFI connectivity?
