I had my truck repaired and the tailgate hinge was replaced. Previously it had soft open contained inside the hinge, not a strut. Is that an OEM part or aftermarket? I can't find it online and the replaced hinge doesn't have soft open.

    OEM.

Make sure the new tailgate has the plastic bushings that mate to the damper hinge. That's usually the most common point of failure.

So you're saying I might have the right hinge but it's not engaging?

Edit: yup, that's exactly what happened. It looks like the part is 66143-04021. Thanks!

That would be my guess. If I understand it correctly, the damper is not in the tailgate. Its in the bumper.

    Part number 6728904010

The bushings are what sit on the tailgate itself, and mate to the damper hinge. Part number 66143-04021

I think. Look for this plastic bushing (as shown from another thread). Its very common for it to crack or go missing.

Just ordered the part, this should be the easiest repair ever
