    **SOLVED**
I'm curious if anyone could possibly make a custom tailgate cap? Or knows someone that might? I've been looking for a special type for awhile now and haven't had any luck. I searched different vehicle makes, companies (that cater to Tacoma accessories), eBay, Amazon, voodoo, mobtown, corner store auto shops, machine shops and come up empty handed. I'm on the verge of throwing in the towel. I thought I would take one last stab at it and post this thread haha.

Here are a few pictures of what I'm getting at. Thanks in advance :)

Thanks for posting that. Unfortunately I contacted voodoo a few months back asking if they could make me one. They politely wanted nothing to do with it lol.

I also tried to contact mobtown because their website is not too descriptive on the product. I never heard anything back, so I moved on.

It's like the universe doesn't want this to happen for me dude:rofl:

Haha true. I'm seriously willing to spend a little more than I usually would just to end my misery.

Are you trying to get one that comes down onto the tailgate?

If you find one that makes the tailgate level with the bedside caps. Get me one. :p

Yup, trying to cover some blemishes and protect from further damage on the tailgate. Like shown in the picture I posted above. Repairing or purchasing a new tailgate it outrageously over priced. I want the cap to come down to the handle.

Haha I'll let you know dude!

Took me a second to figure out what the picture was showing. Gotcha. Good luck on your search.

I don’t recall ever seeing an email from you so I’m sorry about that.

As for making this, not that we can’t, it’s that you won’t want to hear the price tag.

I have the aluminum Relentless reinforcement and it’s a very nice piece, but it doesn’t cover as far as you want. What you could do is buy the steel Relentless reinforcement and a piece of 1/8" X 3" flat bar, carefully weld them together, grind it down and paint or powdercoat it. It's going to take come careful welding so you don't warp it. Here's some pics of the the Relentless reinforcement panel.

Why don’t you just do bedliner from the handle up and then reinstall the tailgate cap. There a are several good diy products out there.

Thanks for recommending that! I do see that it covers the bed side of the tailgate pretty well but I'm looking to get a bit more coverage on the outside of the tail gate. I would need the cap to come down to the gate handle.

It does come down a couple inches on the outside of the gate, not all the way to the handle.

    not my pic:

i agree that a tailgate cap that raised the level to the bed rail would be a good idea, and I'm surprised it hasn't been done.

This doesn't seem like a particularly complicated fab project. Isn't it a simple matter of a shear, a sheet brake, a few holes and cleanup grinding, and off to powder coating? Seems like a few hours at most in a decent shop.

Maybe you should move outside the traditional Tacoma ecosystem, theolee. I can imagine a number of machine or metalworking shops doing this pretty straightforwardly.

That's a pretty solid idea. I've never welded nor have a welding gun. But I'm sure I have a friend that does. I'll look into this one. Thanks @Muddinfun

I'd reach out to a local metal Fab shop then, this shouldn't be hard for them and realistically it will prob be the same if not less than what the market has to offer already. If you can get a CAD file shoot it off to several metal Fab shops in your area for estimates. GL either way OP
