I have the Access Limited , sits outside without an issue and love the way it works . Velcro wear isn't an issue since it's rail system allows it to be replaced later . It does leak a hair bit at the very rear corners but I think it has more to do with the tailgate than anything else . Very tough cover , roll up mine and use it a lot in sub-zero temps without any problems .
One note - I've found using Aerospace 303 to keep it looking new and soft , seems to last quite awhile too .

This is my 2nd truck with an Access rollup tonneau cover. I live in Vermont and my truck gave up its spot in the garage for my motorcycle, canoe, riding mower and snowblower so it sees plenty of weather. I had the 1st one for the 5 years I had the truck and it worked great and showed no real signs of wear. I've had my current one for about 6 months and so far, so good. I have the one that's just called the Access cover. I like that it's low profile, allows me to use the sliding tie-downs and rolls up out of the way. I did use different weather stripping and haven't noticed any water in it. I do have a bed mat so any water that did get in would probably wind up under that anyway.

I have the Access Limited, had one before on a different truck and liked it so much I went with it again.

I've also used the Access rollup cover and love it. Mine doesn't leak as others and I think it's because we don't get heavy downpours often. Right now, no rain! The rain does follow the rail as the top sits inside the top rail cover. You can also keep your stock tie down system in tack.

I've had it in the snow and it works fine. Like anything else, it keeps an honest thief out. You can break into anything. Best part is being able to utilize the entire bed when rolled up. Try going somewhere with your fold up or solid top and try to bring back a large item. Also, I've used it to cover dirt and compost loads to keep from putting a tarp over the bed. All around nice top. Loved it so much I took it off my '09 and put it on my '14.

Again, appreciate the replies guys. I was leaning towards getting a roll-up versus the tri-fold and y'all made me feel more confidence so +1000 reps to you all!

Does this cover still allow use of the rail system for D hooks, etc?

I've owned a rollup (with snaps) and a tri-fold (currently). I'd never go back to a rollup. The worst part about it - In the cold weather, if you took it off or rolled it up....You could NEVER get it back on in the cold. The vinyl shrinks and makes it impossible to snap back in place.

The Tri-fold....YES.... it does stick out probably more than a foot. Doesn't matter.
TAKE IT OFF COMPLETELY. You can easily take the entire frame off and carry it in your bed with all your other gear. OR ...just leave it at home.

To clarify, does the Access roll up cover allow use of the factory rails on a 2005+ Tacoma?

You can ask them, but if it's the same as my 2009 and 2014 with factory rails/sliding "D" hooks, YES they stay there. The top side supports go between the factory rail and some spacers they send to move the rail system to the inside of the bed about 3/4". If you plan on cranking down on your "D" hooks to secure loads, I'd put a solid piece of delrin block the length of the bed and putting some extra bolts in. In other words, I wouldn't want to tie down a refrigerator with them in either case.

You can't go wrong with Extang or Access. They are both top notch tonno covers. I sell both brands at the shop I manage. (If you're looking for a price) If you wanted a solid folding cover I'd go with the BAKflip G2. Awesome cover! I have one on my own Tacoma and love it. And it's weather tight.

The Access line of covers do not have any issues with cold weather - they do not use snaps but instead have an industrial strip of heavy Velcro to hold the sides down tight . The cold does not seem to make the cover shrink as much as other covers/tops I've dealt with in the winter , this one just works and it's not an issue . It also allows for keeping the stock tie downs in place and keeping their function intact .

Had a roll up on my long bed GMC. Loved it! Not a fan of try fold as you can never truly get it out of the way.

Same here , hate the fact that any hard cover other than a rollup style makes the bed useless for most things . I bought a pickup to haul stuff , not turn it into a low-profile storage tub . Besides , no matter what cover you use , someone can get into it if they really want and hard covers are expensive to replace if damaged . My Access by no means is cheap , but works great overall and allows me pretty much full use of the bed unrestricted .

Yeah, the more I think about it the roll-up is the way to go for me as I do use my bed on a regular basis.

Late to reply, but it's held up fine. I try and not let it pile up with a bunch of snow unless I really need it to be protecting anything. Honestly, my cover spends 90% of the time rolled up and is only covering the bed the other 10% when I haul something I want to keep dry or out of plain sight.

As I said, love mine. Holds up to snow (4") as well, no sagging. Five years and no problems. If I need another vinyl top, I can order just that. Velcro sides work great.

I have a Truxedo Low Pro QT cover on my truck and it keeps the water out unless it's really pouring and even then it's not much. Instead of the traditional black I got silver to match the truck.

Colorado winters > SC winters. Snow would be a factor every few years, but my biggest concern would be the cold deforming the cover in any way.
