So... uhaul wiring install

I loaned my truck to my brother to haul a trailer last week and he had uhaul install the wiring. It’s a 4 wire setup, and other than the shitty place they stuck the bracket, it works. Problem is that when I hit the brakes, the dash turn signal lights come on and the rear turn signals light up a tiny bit. (All lights other than head lights are led)

Any idea what they did to cause that. It’s making me crazy to see my dash light up each time I tap the brakes.

 

I would undo whatever UHaul put on the truck and install the cable sold by various sites (I don't have a link handy) for around $20, as I recall. That is what I used on my truck and have had no problems.

Then again, maybe there is another problem in your wiring. That cable is the simplest way to do the job.

 

I took a look at it today, and their wiring job is a mess. I think pull it out and start over might be the best plan.

 

Don't touch the wiring yourself! First bring the issue up with the U-haul location that completed the work, and see if they are willing to work with you to fix their mistake. If they try to dick you around and you think it's too much of a headache to get them to own up, then you can start the re-wiring!

Ahhh, ok that changes things for sure. Usually the u-haul wiring is tied into the taillight, that would be the first place to look and see what they crossed.

Also good time to see if they used a kit that is meant for your truck, because it could have been Joe Blow that installed it, who grabbed the first 4-pin kit off the shelf and slapped it onto your truck. Check for a small black box that the trailer plug wires go into (more than likely tucked in behind taillight or under bumper) There should be some type of part number and you can verify that it is meant for your truck.

For the signals on your dash to light up, they have stripped wires touching each other somewhere and they need to be separated and correctly insulated.

 

Installers at uhaul are butchers... don't let them touch your truck. Ever.

But, since it's already done. I'd call and insist on a refund, and then do it right yourself.
