Can my Tacoma become a front wheel drive truck for a day or two ? Could something go wrong ?

No issues. Folks in my off road club occasionally dent a rear driveshaft. Common trail repair is to drive home (~300 miles) with the driveshaft removed. No speed limitation.

60 mph is the limit for shifting from 2h to 4hi. Once in 4hi there's just the truck's normal speed limiter (~112 mph indicated).

    That’s not the owner's manual. That’s Google.

LOL! I did that same thing years ago with a 81 CJ7. I busted a rear u-joint playing off road two hours from home. I was a beer fueled broke teenager at the time and I drove around in 4-high like that for a week or so. It will be fine.

Yup OP no probs, just be nice on the take offs and you will be fine, like stated its done more than you would think with no issues. I have done it while I waited a week for RTV in a center carrier bearing to dry (round town/highway mix of driving of a few hundo miles). Nothing blew up and that was 100k miles ago. Also anti theft, put it in 2hi when parked and a thief wont be able to move if they get the truck started lol.

THE ONLY NOTE ILL MAKE! MAKE SURE TO SHIFT TO 4HI WITH THE TRANS IN PARK. without the rear driveshaft to make it to where the truck moves you can be in Neutral (parasitic drag) and especially Drive (duh) and it will spin the rear output only quite fast even at idle and when shifting to 4hi in those conditions it will clunk HARD into 4hi.

Shift to 4hi in park let it try to shift for a bit 2-3 secs and if its still blinking shift to reverse, things will clunk into place but much softer.

This is assuming auto, if manual id shift into 4hi without the truck running, clutch in and in a slight turn it should go in.

Did you just assume we didn't upgrade from 2nd gens?

    And that's a 2015 manual I'm referencing.

The biggest issue is vehicle performance.

It's really odd. MEGA torque steer. I've driven a few Toyotas with no rear prop shaft and I would only do it to get it to a shop. Highway? No.

Had to drive around for a week in FWD no rear shaft definitely did over 60 MPH (75ish on highway) wretched torque steer when coming off the line but otherwise no harm done to anything.

I have been (off road of course) over 100mph in 4WD in my truck.

The "speed limit" only applies to "on the fly 4WD" shift speed.
