    My GOAL: A topper that can provide enough support for a rooftop tent (RTT). After reading up on it and talking with the local dealer, the best option (and the only one which I can feel comfortable that it will work) is the Snugtop Rebel with the Sportsman's Package, which provides a weight rating of 500lbs on top. The quote the lady gave me is a little more than I wanted to pay, so I wanna know if it is in line.

    Rebel model with frameless glass lift up rear door and single lock
    $1649.00 (after $100 coupon)
    $ 240.00 (Sportsman’s pkg)
    $ 449.00 (Yakima rack factory installed)
    $ 175.35 (tax)
    $ 60.00 (labor to install)
    Total $2573.35

    Is this in the neighborhood of what you would expect or am I getting my chain yanked?

    Thanks! What about the Yakima rack? It seems to me that is really expensive for something you could install yourself.

    I have the ARE CX series cap with the Yakima rack system and paid pretty much the same but in Canadian dollars :)

    I paid about $1600 for the Snugtop for my Regular Cab Tacoma so that looks reasonable. Installation was included.

    I got it from Truck Builders LLC in Lynnwood, WA. I highly recommend them.

    Your info lists your Tacoma as a double cab, so you do have a lot of "inside" cubic footage already. If you can be happy with a bed rack (tubular frame of your specified heigth) then a rack is much less money. I have a rack built to my heigth by Avid Off-Road with a RTT on it and really like it. When you have the RTT on it provides some weather protection to stuff in the bed.

    To me a topper on a pickup makes it look like Mom's SUV, but I cannot dispute the added security and protection of having gear inside a topper. Still $2500 is a bundle!

    Don't dis mommy's ride! ;)

    Drifter, how much did that setup run you? Which RTT did you go with?

    I am really sold on the Gordigear Explorer, but it's a little more expensive too. But those Aussies know how to make some solid gear.

    Reasonable yes but expensive. The rack seems overpriced to me. I just got a cx and the rack was $329.00 extra. I figured it was overpriced but worth it to have it done in the factory. You might be able to haggle a little on the price but I hate haggling over a few bucks.

    I just bought the toppper; here is the final price I paid:

    SnugTop Rebel for 2014 Tacoma, 5' bed, 8T5 Blue Ribbon Paint, Front Slider, D/S Windoor (extra $140), P/S Slider w/ Dog Screen (extra $50), installed - $1,669
    Add Sportsman Package (for 500 lb roof capacity) - $240
    Add Yakima Track System installed at the factory - $449

    For a pretax total of $2,358 (w/ tax, $2,534.85)

    Done and done. Maybe I'll post some pics when I get it installed with the Roof Top Tent.

    I just got quoted for 3 grand. Not very thrilled with that offer. I am waiting to hear back from a LEER dealer for a more reasonable price.

    I priced four brands for my 15 Taco long box. All of them are about $2,200 once I get the basic upgrades (dog screens, fold down front window, etc,. Spendy.

    Snugtop I'm told is the only one that properly water seals the front of the shell and the bed.

    I think my Snugtop XTR was about $2400....total was just a tad under $3100 for the Shell with a full Bedrug kit and $100 cost to pull the top rails and have them powder coated. That was everything installed...I got the fold down front window, Pro Lock, and vehicle powered LED light.

    for my snug top rebel (DCLB: full bedrug, top liner, yakima track/rack, pet screens, and fold down window) i paid $2600 total.

    Super happy with it, can't believe I went so long with a Tonneau when I could have had this. The dog loves it as well, he and I will be spending nights in there for early morning hunting sessions.
