Living in New England the last few mornings have been in the low 30s. I noticed a symbol I havent seen before. It was a little indicator icon on the dash screen between thr tacometer and speedometer of a snowflake on a road.

What does mean? What does the truck do when this is on? And should I be concerned because there was no snow or ice?

It means its cold enough outside to cause frost on the roadways. Its a precautionary sign.

From NH. Been over to the New England BS thread yet? Come say hi.

Snowflake just means it's cold, like the other poster said. No worries. Probably for the best too. Lot of people that buy trucks these days have no reason to or have never had a truck before. The back ends of trucks come around quick in snow or on ice. A friendly dash reminder might keep it fresh on the Monday and make them drive a bit more reserved

I drive frequently in the snow. One of the reasons I decided to buy a truck. I couldnt stand my ford fusion in the snow and the lack of utility function. Should I be worried about weighing down the rear end?

It doesn't hurt. The biggest thing is if you weigh down the back, make sure whatever you use is secure. The last thing you want is a projectile coming through your rear window.

I use cheap kitty litter. If you keep it sealed and dry, you can also use it to spread on ice if you get stuck somewhere.

I live in RI and haven’t had any issues with no weight in the bed.

Residing in Maine, we get tons of snow and ice. Have never put weight in the bed, and it handles like a Dream with the snow (tires also play a part in that) Yokohama AT

Anyone notice a difference in handling in snow or ice of a DCSB vs. DCLB? Just wondering if the wheelbase difference is noticeable.

It is noticeable. The SB has a little easier time in the snow due to weight of cab being closer to being over the wheels. Drove a friend's and noticed a difference. I have SB, he has LB. Even he said the SB felt better.

It'll be lighter but will take longer to come around.

My last Tacoma did a 360 pulling onto the highway one morning. After that I always put a few bags of sand over the rear axle in the winter if I wasn't carrying anything.

Generally if it's snowy now I'll toss it in 4wd to accelerate, and that pretty much negates the issue.

But the image of my headlights lighting up the passenger side of a ford f350 inches from the truck as it passed me is burned into my memory.

If your bed is open, and you have to shovel snow in the AM anyway, that can put some weight back there

At least for the mid Atlantic type snows we get. The only time I need the weight is before the plows get out.

Kitty litter or bags of salt ( double wrapped with trash bags ) are probably better since they have dual use .

I thought it was a warning sign that millennials should stay off the roads, as condions may exceed their driving skills.

It comes on at 39 degrees and colder, off at 40 and above. It just lets you know that the weather is right for black ice and other slick road conditions...

    Working on them
The Kitty Litter works well as long as you keep it dry or head to the local big box home depot or Lowes type place and grab a pair of Tube Sand for 5 bucks each and tie em in place behind the rear wheel wells
