Hey I've seen lots of chatter about snow tires and Blizzaks being the best. I had the WS90 on my Honda before I got my Taco and loved them. Here's my question-

Which Blizzak is the best for the Tacoma? I've read lots reviews Blizzak w965 and they say it's not as good and does poorly on ice- anyone have these? What are your thoughts? Are they still the best for a truck?

    Thanks for the input!

Do they have to be Blizzak?

I put Michelin Ice-X on my RWD Lexus and they are amazing. In fact, I usually take the car now over my truck.

I had blizzacks for 4 winters on my Tacoma and drive fairly extensively. I have to replace them this year with new tires and leaning toward Blizzacks again myself. Still im going to spend some time Review surfing winter tires on Youtube to get some other opinions before i commit. I did make my appointment to get my snow tires on my Taco for the last week of October. Get ahead of the crowd who try and book last minute and cant figure out why they cant get an appointment immediately.

I ran the DM-V2, but any dedicated winter tire should be good. I've ran Michelin and now General as well. General is probably one of my all around favorite tire brands.

2nd the X-Ice Michelins. Loved them on my Subaru, ran them 5 or 6 winters on that car. A few of those years I was a snowboard instructor, they saw alot of shitty conditions and never let me down.

I have run Toyo Observe winter tires for 20 years and they work excellent.

Mostly electrical shit that nobody cares about.
I'm in New Jersey and I run stock size Blizzak DM-V2s from November till February!

Mounted on a set of SR rims from eBay with no TPMS sensors. I often go snowboarding up in VT so I do appreciate the added traction. They've already saved my life once.

And honestly, I like how the truck looks with the sharp sidewalls and boxy tread. Everything I do to my truck is with winter trips in mind so the tires were step #1.

I’ll have to look into the generals as well for the wife’s Subaru. Been leaning towards Nokian or Michelin.

Microbit additive in their winter tires is crushed walnut shells, the hardest plant material in the world.

I have General Grabbers on the Tacoma and Blizzak DM-V2s on the 4Runner. For winter highway driving I find the Blizzaks are much better. Not surprising given it's a dedicated winter vs an AT. The Grabbers do fine in snow but aren't ideal on ice and hardpack.

Nokian. Blizzaks are great until half worn then not so great. They have the winter compound only half way according to several things I've read. Unless that depends on the model. Nokian has it for the full life of the tire.

I've found the blizzak DM V2 to be best for packed snow and ice which is where winter tires are most imortant imo. Ran Toyo, mich, etc. Nothing beats DMV2 for Ottawa winters. My GF has generals on her RAV for winter they are good too but if you can afford the blizzaks go with them you'll be pleased

DM-V1 lasted me eight winters, now I’ve had the DM-V2 on for two. No way I’m going to anything else, almost went with the observes last time but all the reviews and reports said ‘almost as good as Blizzaks’..

I run 255/70r17 on FJ steelies.

DMV2 for best all around performance. Longer life span, handles abuse (not changing in time).

WS90 for top performance but shorter life span.

The commercial ones perform like crap, they are hard and designed to last a long time.

I loved the Ws90 blizzard on my SUV before I got my truck. It doesn't have to be - I know the WS 90s worked great and I've read mixed reviews on the W965 for a truck so was trying to figure out if I should switch brands- I'm thinking about winter and getting excited!
