Smoked/blacked out/chrome delete headlights

Afternoon all,

I’ve been doing research into eliminating all the chrome from my 2021 Tacoma and pretty well have the head and tail lamps as the only components without an easy solution. I don’t want to go aftermarket, partly due to cost, mostly due to poorer light output. I don’t wish to mod my stock ones in case of leaks and other things. I’ve seen a vinyl overly for the marker lamp which I’m considering if nothing else to help but here’s what I’m thinking of and would like your opinions:

Something like these: https://www.rvinyl.com/Toyota-Tacoma-2016-2021-Headlight-Tint.html but I would cut them so that they only cover the side of the housing, eliminating the view of the chrome from the side and not interfering with light output. Looking at the truck straight on, it would look stock but on an angle that inch or so of chrome would be mostly hidden.

do you think it would work, and/or is a good idea?

Well, considering the things you don’t want to do, this might be your only option. I personally wouldn’t do it but your truck and can always take it off.
Or buy a set of the OEM LED headlight that have much less chrome. or buy a used set of the 17-19 TRD pro headlights for a cheaper option.
I know you don’t want to have a previously opened set of headlights but a lot of people have done it successfully without issues. The outcome is really good and seems like what you’re wanting (look wise) with a lot of upgrade options. I have a feeling if you go this route you’ll regret it. I know nothing though

 

I never really considered trying to find used. That's an option definitely. I'm not opposed about them being opened so long as it's all done properly as I'm afraid of the condensation issue. I definitely wouldn't trust myself with it, anyway. If a professional or someone really handy did it I'd consider purchasing a pair.

Eh, you have insight and opinions with reasoning which is what I'm looking for. I want to be certain I'm aware of all my options and the pros and cons to each and you've helped with that. Thank you

Thanks for that! I hadn't seen that thread and that would definitely be the ideal route I think. The problem with it though is that he does only for Americans from what I read. I'd have to find someone either in Canada or who will ship there.

Much more thinking and researching to do. I'm not in a hurry by any means; this will probably be one of the last things I end up doing
