Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with the Smittybilt x20 Gen3 12k winch? I'm currently in the market for a new winch and on paper the gen3 seems pretty outstanding. It's been out since late 2021 and there are hardly any reviews or feedback on it.

Sorry I can't help you but I coincidentally wondered the same thing today. I had my eye on the Harbor Freight Badland Apex 12k that's on sale ($550) this week, but the X20 Gen3 12k is nearly the same price, so I just ordered one. The X20 has a better warranty and is marginally smaller in size to give you food for thought.

Warranty is one of my biggest deciding factors between the Smitty and the Apex which is why I ruled the Apex out.

I run a Smittybilt X20 Gen 2 in 10K. Had it for 3 years now. Works for everything I need. The only problem I have ever had with it was my remote battery dying, ha.

So I bit the bullet and ended up ordering the X20 Gen3 12K winch last Friday. I should have it tomorrow. Got a killer deal on it through 4wheel Parts.

I am seriously considering this same winch. In the spirit of your original thread, how do you like it now that you have had it for a little bit?

I've only used it a couple times and it worked flawlessly. I think my only issue with it is how the remote connects to the winch. I'm not crazy about having a usb port on a winch...besides that, I really haven't experienced any trouble with it.

Used it several times. Gets annoying trying to reach to plug in the wired remote inside my engine bay and in to the front bumper. Other than that it’s been great. Was looking for some remote extension options but no luck so far.

Just throwing it out without knowing anything about the Smitty winches, would a standard USB data extension cable work?

Relocate the box. Moved mine into the engine bay. Might end up wiring switches in the cab as well

running out of space in the engine bay. I’ll see about where to have it. It’s really not a big deal if I’m the one doing it but when my buddy tried it he was having a tough time.
