Can somebody school me on this set up?? Can this feature be disabled or will it not lock if engine is left running?

I have times where I am in and out a bunch and sometimes will leave truck running or may cut the engine jump out and need back in within a few minutes.

Seems like it could be a hassle. May be the best thing since sliced bread too.

To me it doesn't make much sense. If the truck detects the keys are not inside the cab (or anywhere near it) why doesn't it just lock?

As far as I know (did a test) anyone can get in and drive it away and it won't stop until they turn it off.

Im pretty sure if the keys are in your pocket and your truck was stolen while it was say... warming up, the truck would shutdown and lock after a short distance.

You can still lock the drivers side door with the key if the engine is running. Just hit the lock button inside before opening the drivers door to get out (so the other doors are locked)....once out of the truck, slip the blade key out of the remote case and lock the drivers door with it.

How about not lock at all until somebody makes it lock?? I guess a guy could just leave the key in the cup holder.

A few years ago, the wife and I were out of state for one of our boy's soccer tournament. We had a Nissan Altima. Heading back to the hotel, she said she'd drop us off and go pick up a few things at a grocery store. Well, she dropped us off and headed out. I got a call about 30 minutes later. She says "you have the fob".
    Shit!
I had a nice long walk with the kids that day.

Again, a couple of weeks ago. My wife was yapping with her friends and they were going to pick up food. She started the Highlander and came back into the house to do something. Apparently the fob was in her hand when she came back in (it usually stays in her purse), and at some point she put it down on the counter before she left. 20 minutes later, I get the call.
Not this shit again, lol. At least this time, I didn't have to walk.

May keep me from buying a vehicle that has this feature. Dumbest damn thing I have heard of, at least for me.

Admittedly I didn't try to lock it from the DOOR button.

But the truck WILL not lock from the outside door handle button or the keyfob when it's running and you're not in it.

My Silverado is supposed to be the same way. not lock w key in ignition unless you lock it with fob.

Don't ask me how I know but they fail. Luckily I keep a spare in my wallet and 1 under the bed rail.

Looking like if I go automatic it will be an SR5 unless this can be deactivated. May work for some people but I don't even lock my truck in the drive half the time.

Glad another member on here told me about this auto locking feature.

Maybe just stash a fob in the glove box would work.

I assume you know the tailgate key also locks the door. At least on my 17 it does.

Maybe I am thinking into it too much. Could be foolproof unless one person has the fob and another drives away. Just have to make sure and always have fob present if you want to start vehicle.

I think some Ford vehicles have a fail safe which warns you when you shut off the vehicle that the fob is not in the car, and even allows you to re-start the vehicle without the key.

They can't just shut down if it doesn't detect the key. What if you have the key but battery dies? What if this happens on highway?

I have a remote starter. When the doors are locked, I can remote start it. When I open the door, it shuts off and I need the key in my pocket to restart it. I think it should shut down, if someone enters without the fob and attempts to drive away. I'll have to try that and see.

NO, it will run until the button is pushed or it runs outta gas... Too dangerous to shut her down on the fly..!

I love the push button start... I carry the fob in my pocket and never take it out....You can start and lock it with the key and leave, no sweat...it takes a key or fob to open door again.
Touch lock/unlock on handle is sooooooo nice and convenient, with glove too!! ......I can open ALL doors with 1 touch of handle...it's programmable.

I doubt the brakes will engage at maximum and the engine will hault from full speed. I picture a gradual coast until it hits something or just stips. Have you tested it? My truck beeps like its warning me its about to lock when I walk away from it.
