Klymit Static V double wide inflatable.
3 inches thick. Very comfortable. A minute to inflate using its own stuff sack.

You find this AFTER I drop $300 for your little experiment??? haha, looks like a very good alternative and the size would be just about perfect for full long-bed coverage. Reviews are positive, too.

Your turn: I want to see photos.

I started with this pad, too. Then I returned it. For about $500 total I had these guys make me a custom 5" thick 3 layer custom pad (72" x 40" x 5") for the back of my Tacoma: https://foamsource.com/ Granted, its more expensive, but the right solution for the job, IMO. Thicker, warmer, options for high/medium density in your layers, etc.

Very nice setup! I would head the same direction if I kept my pickup in permanent camper mode.

Would two of these Paco pads side by side work and maybe some sort of heavy fitted sheet to keep the center from coming apart? Two of these together above the wheel well is nearly the perfect width at 54”.

3" x 27"W x 72"L and they’d be more durable brushing up against the clamps and they are waterproof.

Pacos are awesome but that would set you back ~$700.

Finally got pictures. Fit is pretty good. I wish it were a few inches wider but it’s really comfortable and I like that I can store it away when not in use.

How comfortable is this in the short bed? I'm 6'4" and have the short bed and would love to throw a hard shell on there and sleep inside, but I don't think I'd fit, even angled in there.

I'm afraid it likely wouldn't work for you. I'm 6' and fit just barely diagonally. I think you'd be too tall to pull this off, unless you always slept on your side scrunched up.

Have any issues with your clamps your using for the rail to your canopy? I am thinking about use this type vs welding my own on my custom camper.

I have used a trifold memory pad from Millard that fit perfectly in my long bed. I could use one when by myself and was able to fit a second one beside it for a second person. I was able to close the tailgate and slept like a baby.

You should be able to find an upholstery shop and give them your measurements you need, they can cut whatever length/width and then make a custom zippered washable cover for it. We have one done not long ago for a custom porch swing/day bed that we built and it was like $150 bucks all in. The cushion is about 3.5" thick, its foam with a batten wrap and looks awesome. You can also get online and order custom outdoor patio furniture covers in any length/width you need then just take it to the shop and have them fill it. then you get exactly what you need. We did that for a couple of weird shaped chairs we have around our pool, the cover was like $40 bucks if I recall and its a water proof material that we can hose off.

Right on! Looks like it's just about full-width coverage. Looks pretty thin in the photo thought. Is it really 3"???

That looks like a bombproof setup

They work great. They slide right into the tracks underneath the bedrail.

You can buy them for 5 or 6 bucks each under the replacement parts page on the Softopper website. I use 4--two on each rail about 12" from the front and back. I don't drive carefully and have never had an issue with them coming loose, even in high winds.

Thanks man! I think it's probably 3" in the middle but it tapers off at the ends. Surprisingly it's plenty of support. When you sit up and move around you can feel the base underneath but when you are lying flat it feels like a normal mattress.
