Since the 3rd gen tacoma came out in 2016 the only “refresh” it seemed to have gotten is maybe some led headlights and some other really minor stuff.

Seems like they are skipping the mid cycle refresh or facelift on the 3rd gen tacoma and are releasing the 4th gen soon. Has anyone else noticed this?

The 2nd gen had a mid cycle refresh for the 2012-15 models. 2014+ 4runner models got a refresh as well.

Sorry, but you haven't been paying attention. The 4th Gen is actually late. Still though, if you look at the pics, it is good looking and pretty much a 3.5gen other than the powertrain.

    It'll be good.

Its the 4th gen. Its gonna be a complete different truck. I was just puzzled they never did a facelift with the 3rd gen. The 3rd gen actually had a pretty short run compared to some of their other models/generations

After the 4th gen becomes common place people wont be able to tell 2nd gens from the 3rd gens.

@tonered Thanks, hope you're doing great.

Hi, I get your point. The 2020 Tacoma was that mid cycle refresh and it's why I joined this forum. I see it this way. 2009 Tacoma = 2018 Tacoma changes. 2012 = 2020 Tacoma changes.

It doesn't line up perfectly, but seems pretty close in terms of life cycles. The 3rd generation as @tonered and few others hinted at, was called Major Minor Change, in being a heavy redo of the previous model, but not 90-100% all-new. The 2014-21MY Tundra didn't count as that and was still treated as the same 2nd generation truck by Toyota.

LED's, power seat, and Android Auto/carplay whatever were the mid cycle refresh of the 3rd gen I think.

    It was deemed too good-looking.
    -No facelift was needed.

Mine came with it. No complaints! I think the original owner did it when new.

I thought vehicles got a facelift to keep up or improve crash test ratings. Toyota probably couldn't improve upon the existing 3rd gen design to yeild a better rating, not with out equipping all trucks from the factory with an ARB bull bar.
