Hi there, the original engine skid plate on my 1996 Tacoma (3.4L engine - 5VZ FE - 4WD) bit the dust over the weekend. I'm wondering what the options are for replacing it. Where would you source this part?

I'd also entertain any suggestions for alternate skid plate designs, as the original seems rather flimsy. Thanks in advance!

Lots of options out there! Just depends on how much you want to spend. Less choices for our 1st Gens though still a good deal of aftermarket options. You could always go the salvage yard route - or browse the 1st Gen Parts thread - https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/1st-gen-tacoma-parts-marketplace-1995-2004.121/

Not to be that guy and I have a set of skids in great condition that I'm trying to sell. If you are located in CO, then it may be worth your while to consider. More here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/fs-4x-innovation-skids-great-condition.659998/#post-23075389

What do you use your truck for?

I have been beating on my budbuilt skids on the rocks for several years and they've held up pretty well

I have a Bud built for my 03 taco and definitely like it a lot. If i could do it again though, I'd dish out a little more money and get the aluminum version. I don't do enough wheeling to warrant the weight and protection of 3/16" steel.

Thanks everyone! I should have been more clear in my original post. There are two sections of the original engine skid plate front and rear (see image below). What I need to replace is the original **rear** skid section.

    Make one!

All you need is some 3/16" plate and a welder. Add all that up and you're about the cost of some of these skids anyway.

you can see more in my build thread (link in sig)
