My yearly subscription to Sirius was due Oct 9. I was paying 6.00 + tax a month. They wanted to renew at 19.99 a month + tax. I said no then they dropped to 9.99 a month + tax. I said no I want to renew for 6.00 a month + tax they no can do so I said cancel my subscription.
3 days late I reapplied as a new customer and got it for 4.99 a month + tax for a year. Just proves that if you play their game you pay you can win. just saying for those who have to renew let it run out and re-apply for a better deal.

Been playing that game with them for years and years. Might be over a decade at this point. Best I ever squeezed out of them was $25 for 6 months.

I guess you are not fighting hard enough.
This is my 3 year with success.
I tell them I do not need all those channels cause I only listen to 3 and that is music of the 60-70-80's nothing.

I've also found that canceling and then waiting for them to send a renewal offer is the best deal.
I have no idea who is paying full price for sirius, but I know they're out there.

Their renewal offer was 9.99 a month and I got it for 4.99 + tax so I guess I got a even better deal.

I mean $25 for 6 months is less than you pay so maybe you're not fighting hard enough.

LOL! That was a while back. I don't think they'll go that low anymore.

This year I let the Sirius XM subscription on both my truck and wife's car expire. Both vehicles had one year subscriptions. I was told that if you did that Sirius would offer a better price to renew an annual subscription.

My wife is a great negotiator! She got the one year subscription for my truck at $71.29! For her car she got them down to $24.26 for the one year subscription! So, basically, we are paying about $7.96 a month for satellite radio in two vehicles.

Sirius XM is really outdated technology at this point. I haven't used it for years. The only thing it has going for it is that you can use it anywhere you can get a satellite signal. They really need to revamp it to make it better like other Internet Radio services, like Spotify or Youtube Music. Even Pandora for that matter. With Internet radio, you can Like or Dislike songs and it learns to give you more music you like.

You're right about Sirius XM being outdated technology. Because of that Sirius XM is losing subscribers left and right. I suspect that is one reason they are willing to negotiate on subscriptions. The do need to improve the service so it is more like Spotify and the other internet radio providers. I subscribe to it because my trips into the western US and Canada are in areas with no cell coverage. Also, I like to listen to the Grateful Dead channel!

I guess I'll show my age and say I enjoy hearing the DJ commentary on some Sirius channels. I listen to lithium6 a lot and having a DJ comment now and then adds to the nostalgia level.

I also have several times a year where I'm traveling with no cell service and I'm not one to make playlists like Spotify let's you (I've tried it and didn't care for it) so satellite makes sense for me. My wife travels through a dead cell area on her commute and also likes listening to The Dead channel.

I used to subscribe to listen to Stern and for a long while I was able to overlook the turn he took politically, I got tired of his COVID-phobia and his having gone from calling out the Hollywood stars to kissing their arses and had to stop listening to him too.

I like not having to do anything when i get in my truck to start playing music.
You can also play pandora stations from the sirius app. I figured they would have created plans that include full access to both after the acquisition, or a more complete merger of the apps, but not so far.

That would be great if it were possible... SiriusXM is a one-way radio broadcasting service though (not too unlike terrestrial stations are, just subscription-based), so there's no way to implement a ratings system with individualized audio streams for each user. I certainly agree they could do a lot better with what they have though.

My big gripe with SiriusXM is the repetition (the same friggin songs every two hours?!)... And the fact they do not have a simple "Rock" channel that plays current rock artists without all the yelly-screamy-thrashy shit (at least I haven't found it if they do... It's not together with Octane, Lithium, Turbo, Boneyard, etc.).

Their audio quality also leaves something to be desired (artifacts from both dynamic audio compression and data compression are very obvious).

Call and ask for the 3 year deal. I just did it on my wife's RX and got 3 years for $99. It works out to $2.75 per month.

That's a better deal than I got this year. Got to remember to ask for a three year deal next spring when my current subscriptions expire.

Back in 2009 Sirius offered a lifetime subscription for $350.00. The annual rates were around $175 at that time. I don't think monthly rates were available. The lifetime subscription was good for the life of your radio. If either the radio became inoperable or you sold the vehicle the lifetime service expired. I bought the lifetime deal for a new 2010 Honda Pilot which I drove for 11 years. That was the best deal I ever got from Sirius radio!
