It ended back around 2013 or 2014, EPA rates MPG around interior volume or something like that so l doubt you will see them again.

Did that just apply to Toyota because other car makers manage to make a single cab truck to this day.

You have to specifically order a single cab full size truck to get one today, mainly contractor duty.

Back when Toyota discontinued it l read something about it, basically said the higher the interior volume the lower the MPG requirements

We were just talking about access cab being killed for 4th gen, and you are asking about regular cab? 10 years too late!

Regular cab was killed in 2014. It was probably a business decision. A few years earlier, regular cab accounted for just 10% of sales, then sales dropped even more. Regular cabs were also less profitable, without the higher priced TRD packages. Back then Toyota has a capacity constraint, with the Tijuana plant making just 50,000 trucks a year and the Texas plant shared with the Tundra. It made sense to focus on the more profitable models.

    Shaker is right.

It gets into the rules here: https://www.cars.com/articles/is-the-regular-cab-pickup-doomed-454192/

Have owned a couple RCs over the years, like the looks of them…but like the rear seat storage of the Access Cab better. Only RC that made sense was a Tundra, looked for one before I bought my 3rd Gen, since a 8’ bed would suit my needs better. But couldn’t find any low mile ones.

Only advantage a RC Tacoma has is on tight trails, but the market for that is just about nil, at that point better off in a 2D Wrangler, SXS, or motorcycle.

Maybe if they brought back the 7’ bed, maybe…still doesn’t make manufacturing sense for the US market. Since we don’t use trucks as trucks here like the rest of the World.

Like stated it was due to emissions reasons, of which wheelbase was the problem. the Regular cab tacomas wheelbase put it into a category of smaller passenger cars and would of required it to meet some crazier mpg figures.

Also sales, but emissions was the main reason. 6lug 4x4 2nd gens with a mild lift on skinnies...... oh lawd they do it for me.
